Re: Summit

You know, I did think about test driving an X5, and maybe should have, but didn't. I do a fair amount of mild off-roading on Canadian fishing trips and whatnot, and had it in my mind that the BMW was too pretty to haul a boat and for that kind of abuse The only SRT my dealer had was a '15 with that wonky shifter. I was totally distracted by that thing. In the end I knew I was leaning more toward utility vs performance with this next purchase. On the other hand, the wife just bought a M235i x drive. I plan to offer to drive her to the airport for her out-of-town business trips. I'm not yet too old to Rock and Roll

I didn't want the 6 cylinder, and had driven the diesel a year earlier, which was incredible, but now unavailable. I honestly don't care for the exterior changes of the new ones either. I thought my '06 was much better looking. So anyway, here I am now.
I feel for your issue as I was in the same boat this spring. I even had a deposit on a 2016 Touareg TDI for about 3 months hoping the diesel issue would be resolved. Finally gave up in April and bought a 2016 GC High Altitude. I went with the hemi though as the diesel in the Jeep is horrible compared to VW's (unrefined, slow, huge turbo lag) and I am technically only towing about a dozen days a year and the rest of the time the hemi is great.

Overall though, I really like the GC and I am sure you will too. The ride is good 90-95% of the time, just sometimes it has me feeling sea sick. lol

Re: Summit

The 4x4 JGC Summit with V-8 weighs nearly 5000 lbs. It is a genuine unibody truck, rather than a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) which of course are based on car frames.

Being a truck (rather than merely a low-slung CUV) the GC is tall, heavy, and a bit cumbersome, with a high center-of-gravity. It's not a sport car, nor a canyon-carver by any means. If you attempt to drive it rather aggressively on hilly and winding roads, you may end up rolling it over and having a very bad day.

Not "nearly"..."more than". Mine is 5300+ lbs. Current model year may be slightly less due to some weight reduction in the suspension.

Re: Summit

Take is from a former owner of an 04 v6 touareg with Lux pack.

The grand cherokee is a great move.

It's just that the air suspension is floaty. See they don't have a air suspended version of the SRT so the air suspension is more for comfort and off roading.

As time goes by you'll get used to the feel of the summit and the touareg will be a distant memory.

My old ride had 20" Audi Q7 replica wheels.
Color matched plastic, v8 tips and valance v10 grille, v8 lower grille bezel.

Paddle shifters, wood rim steering wheels.

Sometimes it feels like I am doing the same mods to the laredo.

Re: Summit

Thanks again everyone for the comments. I understand and agree with all the different perspectives comparing the T-Reg and GC. I'm enjoying the Summits luxury ride on the highway, and the wife says she doesn't get car sick in the twists like she did in the VW I'm finding that in the corners I compensate for the differences in handling by manually shifting and left foot braking more than I did in the T-Reg. Don't get the wrong idea, I rarely am above the speed limit, but just like keeping a proper line and the suspension loaded properly, no matter what vehicle I'm driving. Now my biggest gripe is the huge shifter lock release button. Never have cared for paddle shifters on a large steering wheel, so I'm grabbing for the floor with that giant button right where I want to hold on. Ohhh the struggles
