TBB Full Size Spare Tyre

I'm undertaking a low level, behind the scenes war regarding the definition of a 'full size spare tyre". Jeeps definition of this seems to be different to my own.

In Jeep specification documents the "full size spare tyre" has the code "TBB".

Is some in the know able to provide me with information - or a picture - of the actual factory definition of what a "TBB" is?

Thanks in advance.

Re: TBB Full Size Spare Tyre

The full size spare is a different tire and wheel combination from what's at the four corners, but it's the same diameter...~30.6"...and has the same load rating. That's so it can be put on when one is loaded with cargo or towing. It is narrower than the normal service tires so it fits under the cargo lid and is on an 18" steel wheel. But matching the diameter is mandatory for a 4WD vehicle.

Re: TBB Full Size Spare Tyre

So the background to this is that JA in their brochure state that GC are supplied with a full size spare tyre. Which we all know is a smaller size on a steel wheel. I've challenged JA on this initially through their Jeep Talk site and the reasons their customer service gave are lower weight (wrong) and luggage space (nope).

Anyway, after a few emails back and forward with JA they now want one of their technical people to discuss this with me further.

I've suggested that a proper full size spare be offered as an option, particularly to owners who order with ORA11.

I'll keep plugging away at JA. I think that JA will have to rectify their brochure at the very least.

Seems like a small issue but really annoys me in a supposedly capable 4x4.

Re: TBB Full Size Spare Tyre

GMWK2...the definition of "full size" is what might be different for the OEM vs the end-user. "Technically", the OEM "full size" spare is actually full size...it has the same diameter as the regular OEM tires and carries the same load rating. (so it can be used while towing) Yes, it's slightly narrower and on a steel wheel for economics, but ~30.6" and the same load rating does the job...as a spare. It's a bit ugly, but it will perform the same in situations where its needed.

That said, some folks have opted to put a 5th wheel/tire combination in the spare well from personal preference. The downside is that the lid might not sit flush because Jeep didn't design the well to accommodate the wider tire profile. I kinda doubt they will ever offer the option to get that from the factory.
