I've got the 305-35-22's & just put my factory 20's with 265-50-20 winter tires on.
The ride is a lot harsher with the big low profile 305-22's. The handling is considerably better though as a result of the wide low profile tires.
The ride with the 265-20's is a lot softer & more daily driver friendly.
If you go for the 305-22's, it's mostly for the look I've found because the harshness of the ride is a negative.
The 285-40-22's might be a good compromise. I had 305-40-22's on my Harley Davidson F150 and the ride was nowhere near as harsh. If you go that route with the 285's I'd stick with the 22x9 for increased tread protection of the rim lip.
