Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

My light went on for the first time showing my front left tire at around 29-30psi.
All along its been at around 32-33 since last November... I figured might as well top them all off as well at around 34-35.

These are the 20" Good years btw..

One thing I can't find is how to reset the TPMS. Its still showing the front left warning.

Thanks!

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

TPM THRESHOLD PRESSURES
1) Placard Pressure (Cold) (PSI)
2) Low Pressure ON Threshold (PSI)
3) Low Pressure OFF Threshold (PSI)

I believe these are rated at 36 psi cold correct? Based on the table below, you need to inflate to what they are rate at cold to get it to turn off the indicator.

28 22 28
29 23 29
30 24 30
31 25 31
32 25 32
33 26 33
34 27 34
35 28 35
36 29 36
37 29 37
38 30 38
39 31 39
40 32 40
41 33 41
42 34 42
43 35 43
44 35 44
45 36 45
46 37 46
47 38 47
48 38 48
49 39 49
50 40 50

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

The tire has to be filled to the vehicle's recommended cold tire pressure. After this done you may need to drive up to 20 minutes for the sensor to update.

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

When I had a flat and put on the spare the light was on for the flat tire of course. After I got it fixed the light was still on when I left the shop. It turned off by the time I got home which is about two miles.

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

You have to drive for a bit even if you just topped it off without the warning light coming on. The system won't recognize the new pressure until driven for a period of time. That's why you should always rely on your tire pressure gauge not what the EVIC is telling you after adjusting your tire pressure.

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

I've driven for roughly 15 miles and the light is still on. I'll try getting the air up to the recommended 36psi - but I'm wondering.. how was it on 33/34 all across the board when I bought the vehicle and none of the sensors complained?

I'm also concerned that I'll noticed a firmer ride on 36 than on the 33/34 I'm used to.

As a side note, also got a recommendation from someone deals with autos and tires and recommends a nitrogen fill up. I had nitrogen in my minivan several years back. Never ever had to top off the air at all. I'm thinking to get that done as well.

But for now, what would be the procedure to get the sensor off - yet return the tires to a 34psi... or should I just get them to 36 and leave it?

thx!!

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

At factory it was probably inflated to proper PSI and could have lost some along the way. It won't throw the light until it reaches the LOW warning, which I believe is 29 PSI. Thus if you inflated to 36 psi, make the light/warning go off. Then you can deflate to the PSI you want, as long as its above 29psi it shouldn't warn you until you reach that threshold.

Re: Tire pressure light.. when does it turn off?

I've been driving around for 12 hours now (45 minutes of actual engine time) with no TPM sensors on my 18" off-road wheels/tires and have received no warning. I checked the EVIC and it still shows the pressure from my 20s. Obviously the system doesn't poll very often...

You have no sensors, it has nothing to report..

It won't update again until it reads the sensors again.

So finally my light went off by itself. It seems after driving some more and the tire temperature increased - the psi increased 1 pound and hit 36 and the light turned off.

So at this point I've ordered a mini air compressor and gauge and I'll tweak my psi to around 34 once it arrives. Figure it's a good little gadget to have on hand anyway.

Funny how after driving for 9 months at a certain psi, a couple lbs increased is quite noticeable when driving.

I have this and love it. Has a built in accurate gauge, fits under the floor with both bins and the tire.

I ordered the slime compressor.. http://amzn.com/B000M8R0QM
Good reviews and a 16 foot hose.

Should get it in the next day or so. Oh, also ordered the Accutire digital gauge. Rated very well with a psi accuracy of +/- 0.05.
