tire pressure sensors

Would anything weird happen if I put steel wheels and snow tires on without the pressure sensors? I like running dedicated snow tires here in the Minnesota winters.

Re: tire pressure sensors

Nothing happens other than the IDIOT light... but for the price why not put these in... Bought them for my Mud Tyres & worked fine.

Re: tire pressure sensors

At $50 plus they aren't worth it. I check my pressures often and haven't had any problem in 50 years of driving. The idiot light is for idiots that don't know how to check their tires.

I hear you, but that light on the dash will drive you nuts. $50 is a small price to pay.

Oh really? So you have never had a flat tyre while you have been driving? Your one luck person... I for one have destroyed a tyre after it punctured at 100kph & I drove it for a few km's before I felt it. Come on for $50 it's cheap fix!. If it wasn't so important then it would be mandated by LAW that manufactures fit TPMS on cars since 2006! It has become a real problem & caused many fatalities.

Re: tire pressure sensors

TPMS gave me early warning of a nail in my tire about a year ago...I was able to get it fixed before actually having a "flat".

It could fail a safety inspection if you have those up thar.
Other than that an idiot light... don't recall it nagging too much.

They aren't that expensive though, particularly if you get them off eBay or from the wheel dealer.

$.01 for a hunk of masking tape would be cheaper.

You can thank a few Darwin Award winners, Ford Explorer, and Firestone Tires for the TPMS.

I know these are chrome, but why such a big difference in price? I plan on buying wheels and tires from OE and just want to know where I should get the sensors... There seems to be a big difference in prices...
