Tire rant

I'm so annoyed... I've had my eye on a set of Duratracs for a while and now that the GC is here, I tried to arrange ordering them but everyone is out. Apparently there is a nationwide backorder until mid January for them. There are two sets in my area and both are on layaway (what kind of ghetto sh-... ).

Rant over. There are some on ebay that are highly marked up but I'm considering alternatives. I really wanted the Duratracs though.

I think I'm going to go with the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2.

Greeting,

Also look at the Nitto Eco, it is their answer to the Duratracs.

Exo Grappler All Weather Traction Light Truck Tire

I am not a fan of BFG any longer when it comes to winter performance.

Best for now.

I was considering the Duratracs, KO2s, and the new Nitto Exo Grappler. The KO2 and Nitto only come in LT, so there's no warranty for either tire. The DT congress with a 50k warranty in the P sizes.

Neither one also comes in a 255/70R18, which matches the diameter for a 275/65R18, and will fit in the spare wheel well. Of course, you can also get the spare as a different tire. Not like you'll run a steely in the regular tire rotation anyway.

Also, as 1stJeepGC previously pointed out to me, the DT and Nitto are studdable. The KO2s are not. Doesn't matter to me as I'm not going to run separate winter and summer tires anyway, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I haven't done anything yet, but leaning towards the DTs. Nittos are only in a few shops around STL, and the KO2 hasn't been out very long. The DTs have been well received for awhile now. Plus I can get the same tire on the spare.

Re: Tire rant

Call around to different retailers. I had the same issue with the Coopers.
Someone has to have a set at their distribution center.

Lots of Coopers here. I had AT3s on the 4Runner and they were pretty solid. I always kind of regretted not getting the Duratracs.

Not sure I follow about the warranty. The BFGs have a 6 year warranty and that includes the LT.

I have no plans to stud them. I'd get dedicated Blizzaks if it got that bad out here, but it usually doesn't.

Also, if anyone's interested, the BFGs have a $70 Mastercard Rebate on them when you buy a set of 4 right now.

I was just referring to mileage warranty. The 6 year doesn't have any guarantees for short tread life.

Re: Tire rant

I had to wait for my Nitto NT421Qs, too...part of this is because of the sizing that the JGC takes with the 20" wheels.

Greetings,

If you do not need the extra tread depth and aggressiveness of the higher AT tires, you might want to look into these Nokian's:

Nokian Rotiiva AT - A all season tire that offers optimal performance with no compromises in terms of safety and driving comfort. / Nokian Tires

Their is a growing and very happy owners here on the forum that uses the Nokians and other models by them.

Best for now.
