Tire Size Options (& maybe spacers?)

My Fortera's are nearing the end of their life... So as I'm getting ready to make a purchase I just wanted to check in to see what opinions are out there about max tire size. (fyi, I'm not looking to put an off-road tire on, while I admire the look its just not for me). So keeping it with an All-Purpose / Good Highway tire with a nice clean look what are your suggestions?

I have a 2013 Overland / 4x4 / with QuadraLift. I have the 2015 Summit wheels as seen in the pic. I don't want any rubbing.

While on the topic I'd love to hear thoughts on spacers. I really would like to have a slightly wider stance although I don't want the wheels to extend beyond the top of the wheel well though.

Can I get some thoughts from other QL owners about max tire size (pictures please) and also if spacers are a good or bad idea (who even installs thought??)

There are many, many threads that explore the up-sizing topic. The summary...~32" is about the max you can get away with without physically modifying the body. And don't forget if you up-size at the four corners, you also need to up-size the diameter of your spare to match.

I've combed through many posts... problem is, most people have put on different wheels (I have no idea what the offset is of these stock summit wheels) or they don't have QL or they have added some leveling kit or something... so yes, lots of info out there, but not really a definitive answer.

Re: Tire Size Options (& maybe spacers?)

If a stock 18" or 20" X 8" wide wheel, offset is +56. Which wheels are you running?

I am currently running a 2011 overland with Quadralift and stock 18x8" wheels, 56 offset. I went up one size to 265-65-18 on Goodyear Duratracs all terrain. I have about a fingers width at the points of nearest contact. No rubbing even in entry/exit mode. The tire is 1" taller than stock, same width.

I personally do not run spacers but keep in mind I live on a dirt road followed by a long dirt driveway. Alabama and red clay would not go well with the spacers. I couldn't keep them clean. Not that I do much more than let the rain give them the occasional bath anyway. lol.

My original answer was pretty to the point...~32" diameter is your limit and that includes with QL. Body interference is less of an issue than mechanical interference with the suspension and the interior of the wheel well when the wheels are turned to the stops.

Others have added that offset requirements can vary by both wheel and the tire chosen; the latter because not all tires are the same profile at the edge where the greatest chance of rubbing exists.

Re: Tire Size Options (& maybe spacers?)

I see that 32" is the largest diameter but what about width? I have a 14' summit with QL and would like to put a 285/50/20 on there but obviously have been checking her to see if there will be any rubbing issues. I've spent the past couple days sifting through the threads here and other jeep forums and haven't see a definitive yes for that size. I have seen a ton for the 275/55/20 but I didn't want that much of a diff in my speedo and was looking for a wider footprint. Any idea if that 285/50 will work? Looking at the Cooper Zeon LTZ.
