Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

update:
Wont pass inspection...
3 new tires needed (one is newer since i had a flat)
rear rotors, pads too
...so not trusting the dealer, I went to my fav garage... he confirmed but also said the Rack n pinion is leaking and the reservoir is almost empty!! Awesome. just awesome
I am on the phone with Chrysler... there is no way I am paying for these..
especially since in 6 months my lease is done.. not paying for new anything just to give it to someone else.
In the 20+ years of leasing, I have never ever had to replace tires/brakes etc.

Started the lemon law process... wish me luck.

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

Steering rack should be covered under warranty. Right?

The rest is wear and tear.

They will still charge you for mileage even if you successfully lemon law it. It might be a useless battle for you if you're turning it in in 6 months anyway.

/\ x 2 As far as I know, lemon law won't help unless:

Under the law of most states, for a vehicle to be considered a lemon, the car must 1) have a "substantial defect," covered by warranty, that occurs within a certain time after purchase, and 2) continue to have the defect after a "reasonable number" of repair attempts.

I don't think a leaky rack is considered a substantial defect.
Not sure where you are but I'd offer you my 20kmi Forteras for $200 if
you're close to central NY and wanted to make it through til your lease end.

Funny... I was looking to see where you were from and I found your first tire post, from July, when you already knew you were due for an inspection, and it seems the mileage on your Scion tires has grown too.

Poor Tire Wear? 2014 GC Limited
Is it just me? or are these tires absolute junk.... I have 16K miles and they are almost bald! Its not like these are cheap either! I had to replace one (flat) and it was 200+ I have a scion tc that had tires that lasted 35K - those are low profiles too. The 2011 we had was at 21K when we turned it in and those tires were in better shape.

Regardless, if you're close, I can hook you up with some legal Forteras to get you through.

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

busted for what? they were getting a bit worn back in July... nope never bothered with the inspection because.... well, i kind of forgot. lol - the Scion has 53K ish miles on it.. and the first tires lasted 35k is miles?

anyway... its not just the tires,This jeep has had issues since day one.

Axle broke
fuel sender was bad. (took multiple trips to find that one)
radio replaced
transmission shifting issues
seat back is falling off
seat memory issues
recalls
engine makes odd noises (randomly, they cant ever hear it)
flashlight has been replaced and still doesnt work
remote died
etc
etc
yeah lemon law so far got me no where because it has to have a recurring issue! so, i can replace/break each item.. as long as its fixed it doesnt count. lol - ugh this sucks!

The only headway I got was the dealer can get me a deal on tires @ 125 each... still puts me at 785 to get it road legal again.. $800 for 6 months till I can dump it? no way.

all the years of having problem free cars came back to bite my ass all at once

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

If you're looking for reliability, you're gonna need to get you a Toyota. I have had an MR2, an old pickup, two 4Runners, two Tacomas, a Tundra, and the wife had a Celica. Of all the years and all the Toyota vehicles, there were less recalls, quirks and issues than two years and 46kmi with my WKII - putting on THIRD set of tires today- I'm good for about 23kmi on a set.

BUT - The Hemi WKII is fast as shit and tows the 6000 lbs that I need, and I can valet park it without hanging my head - (Tacoma style) and visit my parents in their FL community (no pickups allowed- except workers- odd rule)

The new 4Runners are nice... if they came in a V8, I'd go right back.
I hate the look of the Sequoia, and won't shell out for a Cruiser

I'm now running Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires for just over 10K and have only worn down 1/32 of an inch. I should get at least 50K out of them.
How are the GY AT's in snow?

They worked quite well in the limited amount of snow we had here in the Twin Cities last winter. The snow fall so far this winter has been a joke.

I also discovered that 35psi is too low for these tires (OEM size). I could see that the square tread blocks were 'rolling' over and wearing. I bumped them up to 37psi cold, should probably go up to 38 or 39 during the winter.

I did drive through a rain/ice/sleet storm last year to Central Wisconsin with them. That was interesting. I got to my final destination and the entire front of the Jeep was coated with about 1/4" of ice including the antenna. Looked pretty funny. I used the cruise control most of the time because my understanding is that if one tire slips and spins more than the other tires the cruise will self-cancel. It never self canceled and I never felt the GC slip through the curves, though I did keep my speeds down at the posted limits rather than the normal 10mph over that I run.

Have 26k on our Latitudes including 11k of towing. Since new, I had them set at 36psi all around and have nice even tire wear. Rotated them every 7500 miles. Still lots of tread left on the tires....and when not towing, I don't drive like a granny either.

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

Hey guys just curious I have a 2015 grand Cherokee altitude and have proximately 18,000 miles on Goodyear fort-eras. I've constantly had problems with with keeping them balanced and when first hitting highway in the morning they seem to be flat spotting , which causes steering shake issues. Any one else having these issues .

It been recommended by other members to dump them and try Michelins but I feel dealer should replace them but they throw any warranty of on Goodyear and claim it's not for the dealer to cover warranty

Jon

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

I have 2400 miles on my 15 altitude no issues so far. But I don't plan on keeping the fortera's on that long. I got rid of the fortera's on my WK at 19k they were horrible even with QD 2. I would ditch them if they are giving you problems. The Michelin defenders are on the list of about 3 or 4 tires that I will upgrade to.
