Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

$767 dollars later for 3 of the cheapest tires they could find (GY wranglers), new rotors, pads, Inspection... still pissed this had to be done.

oh yeah, plus the rack and pinion was leaking, needed a new pump. back of the seat was fixed. flashlight in the back, still broken. transmission updates done.

now my remote is dead....

I truly dont get why everything on this jeep breaks!
axles, fuel sender, flashlight, trans, seats, radio, rack/pinion, tires, brakes, remote.... You would think its a 2004 model, not a 2014.

23000 miles on the factory Michelins, rotated every 7000 miles. I'll be lucky if I get 30,000 miles out of them.

My 2014 Limited trim needed factory Michelin replaced at 32k and I rotated every 4-5k. Perfect alignment except for last 2k of driving.

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

Greetings,

After following complaints about Michelin tires on the forum and other sources, I have been noticing that certain models with a softer tire compound and a lower tread depth of 11/32 or less seem to be wearing out faster. I am not sure of the heavy weight of the JGC is playing a factor in this.

I am wondering if anybody else has been noticing this pattern?

Best for now.

Re: tires are whooped... 19k miles!!!

I don't know if there's a pattern, 1st', but I do think that one has to be careful with the tread compound with a heavier vehicle like the JGC. While a lot of the time, most of us don't like to think of it as a "truck", from a weight standpoint, we're within a few hundred pounds of a 1/2 ton pickup. When you compound (pardon the expression... ) any kind of aggressive driving and/or towing, it's got to have an effect on tread life.

To add to the mystery, I actually got better tread wear on the OEM Forteras than I have on the Nitto NT421; 40K vs 30k. 6/32 vs 4/32 over that distance respectively. The Nittos are a 70K rated tire. I expect to get less than rating pretty much universally, but...I'm guessing that the tread compound may have had something to do with it. My driving was the same (mostly highway and I'm a "light foot") and pressure/alignment was regularly maintained.

I'd bet that they were handling better, though!!

I don't think I've EVER had a tire last beyond 30,000 miles......actually I wouldn't expect it to, because if it did, it was hard as a hockey puck.
