Are the OEM tires supposed to be 50k tires or something?
The Michelin defender ltx regularly goes over 50K and still has excellent tread left.

Jeeps go straight ahead, not sideways. Makes the tires last longer.

When exactly did Jeeps have actual tires? Certainly not in 92 when I bought my XJ with the terrible Goodyear Wrangler Radial tires or in 95 when I bought my ZJ with worse Goodyear Invicta GA tires. I did not own a grand cherokee after that until now but I do not remember them having good tires. I know the JK Wranglers I had with Bridgestone Duelers were not very good. Like others have said, I think OEM tires have always been bottom of the barrel.

I have only owned trucks my entire life... I have been able to get 25k-30k on M/Ts with and 35k+ on A/Ts with my trucks.... Figured I would get more then that on the Jeep.... Guess not though.

Re: Tires worn with 32000

I have a 2012 Limited with 18 inch wheels. The OEM tires were Michelin Latitude Tours. I run Michelin Latitude X-Ice Xi2 in the winter.

I found the Latitude Tours an ok tire, with anticipated wear. I had them down to, IIRC, 6.5 to 7/32nd last fall. I happily replace tires early, no where near the wear bars.

Two weeks ago, I took off the winters and put on Michelin Premier LTX, just prior to a 2200 km drive from Toronto down to Washington.

I really like the Premier LTX, finding them quiet, smooth, great traction in the rain. I also find that I have to perform far less steering corrections on the highway than compared to the Latitude Tours.

My choice was down to the Defender LTX and the Premier LTX. For my needs and preference, I went with the Premier LTX.

Re: Tires worn with 32000

Our Latitude Tour's have 27800 miles on them with plenty of treadwear still left on them. Of that mileage, some 15000 has been towing a 4800lb trailer with speeds around 60/65mph and "solo" road trips in and around Texas at 75/80 mph. Since new, I've set them at 36psi all around and rotated them every 7500 and I don't drive like a granny either !

Then you, sir, are one of the VERY RARE lucky ones to actually get good miles out of the OEM tires. (Have you tried playing the lottery?)

Maybe it's something about the roads in Texas....
The roads/highways in MN leave a LOT to be desired.

Is it bum tires or is the thing to heavy for car tires? I'm getting new tires tomorrow regardless but figured I see if this is very common.
My 2014 Summit came with Goodyear Fortera HL's; they, too, we're junk... worn out at less than 30,000 miles. Got a set of Cooper Discoverer SRX'S and am one happy Jeeper.

Re: Tires worn with 32000

I had 28K on my original michelins of mostly slow short in town driving and they were never off road. I called Michelin and complained. Made a deal with Discount tire and they got a $300. credit from Michelin for a new set of Michelin LTX. Out the door around 700. I am happy. I have used nothing but Michelin for the last 40 years and they treat me right.
