Towing with road magnet mid springs?

Reports are all over the place on this still. Its pretty unbelievable that we can't get to the bottom of it.

I have RM mid drop springs and bilstein 4600's on my non-srt wk2. They are amazing but I'm looking to tow a 25' pontoon boat and concerned about the feasibility of doing so with the lowering springs.

Dry weight of the boat from the MFG is 2,543. Plus I'm guessing the outboard motor is about 450 lbs and trailer about 1000. Add some weight for coolers, food, 30gallons of fuel and supplies onboard and I'm guessing it would be about ~4,500 lbs

I have the factory tow package and SRT brembo brakes on my jeep so stopping power and cooling should be sufficient plus I would get a trailer with electronic brakes and double axles.

BUT I removed the load leveling shocks for bilstein 4600's and lowered the jeep on road magnet mid drop springs.

I wouldn't be towing up any steep grades. everything is pretty flat around here and the furthest I would have to tow it would be about 100 miles, but usually less than 10 miles to the closer marina's.

Anyone have any real world experience ? will the car sag with the springs and not allow me to tow this weight?

Re: Towing with road magnet mid springs?

With that tongue weight, Jeep requires you use a WDH to balance the load between axils so the lack of load leveling shocks shouldn't matter. Of course, if your boat trailer has inertial/surge brakes instead of electric brakes...it limits the ability to use a WDH; very few are compatible with inertial/surge brakes.

Re: Towing with road magnet mid springs?

You could get airbag helpers for the springs. Just fill them up when your towing and deflate when your not.

Towing with road magnet mid springs?

Ok so I found these but they say not compatible with the SRT 8. I don't have an SRT but I am on lowering springs and they are the same fitment as the SRT. I wonder why they say they don't fit?

Any others you know of?

Re: Towing with road magnet mid springs?

I would contact the spring manufacturer (RM?) just for the heck of it. Their experience and input could be insightful.

Re: Towing with road magnet mid springs?

Thing is I doubt they did much testing on non SRT's since these are SRT springs that we are running.

Towing with road magnet mid springs?

I had an email into Air Lift a few months back, prior to me installing my SRT rear springs. All they needed from me was the spring length and inside diameter of the stock SRT coils to help find the correct bag size.

I would look up they're contact info and have the measurements on hand if your interested in a kit.

Yea I wonder if the compressed length and diameter would work? I'll shoot them an email

Worst case, you could just jack up the rear end to get the actual coil length.
