Here's the latest. The dealers wouldn't budge on pricing for a 4x4 so I ended up ordering (thanks bill_de) a 4x2 with the Tow Package IV.

The vehicle is in transit (thanks Milous) and should be at the dealer by March 15, 2014.

I just received the build sheet and in reference to the Tow Package IV, the Rear Load Leveling Suspension, Full Size Spare, and Heavy Duty Engine Cooling are installed / listed however Jefferson North Assembly installed a 180 Amp Alternator instead of the 220 Amp Alternator.

What are the advantages of the 220 Amp alternator vs. 180 Amp version ?

Additionally, can I just swap out the 180Amp for a 220Amp without it affecting the vehicle's wiring system ?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Congrats on the incoming Jeep. Remember to post pictures.

It's possible the 4x2 comes with the 180 amp. From Jeep.com

"220-Amp Alternator (Unavailable with some configurations)"

It's unfortunate that they never specify what those configuration are, but in this case it could be '4x2'. I would neither be concerned, nor do anything about changing it, unless Jeep confirms it was done in error.

Re: Trailer Tow Group IV package on new 2014 Overland?

Hi bill_de,

Yes, I just saw Jeep's disclaimer this morning. However, I may have "printed" what is/was included with the Trailer Tow Package IV when I ordered back in January 2014. Unfortunately, it's at home (if it exists) and I'm relatively confident it included the 220Amp alternator in addition to the other items. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Re: Trailer Tow Group IV package on new 2014 Overland?

My v6 Overland has the 220 amp alternator, so it's either the 4x2 or a factory mistake.

Re: Trailer Tow Group IV package on new 2014 Overland?

I wonder if anyone has a 2014 Overland 4x2, 3.6 liter gas and Trailer Tow Package IV with the 220 Amp alternator ?

Re: Trailer Tow Group IV package on new 2014 Overland?

What do you plan on hooking up to the vehicle, that you're going to need a 220? Going to build an RV out of the thing??

Re: Trailer Tow Group IV package on new 2014 Overland?

Hi racer-xerols,

Thank you for your comment.

No, I do not plan on building or converting it to an RV. However, someone with your discerning tastes (you have a very nice collection of vehicles listed in your auto signature) can appreciate the principle of the matter.

The purpose of my initial post was to determine whether the 220 Amp alternator is part of the trailer package? And, if one specifically orders and pays for said package, then it stands to reason it should be included.

Please keep the comments coming.
