Upgrading from JK - Wheel/tyre Question

So im looking to trade my 07 JK for a new WK2 Overland.

My question is - will my Mickey Thompson rims/tyres go on the WK2?

17" rims, 33" MTZ tyres 5x5 bolt pattern.

Second question - If I CANT put these rims on the WK2, does anyone know of a half decent AT tyre that will go onto either 20/22" rims for the WK2?

i like this kind of look on a JK at SEMA - a big rim but still with a chunky tyre

Any help would be appreciated!

From my research a 17" wheel will not clear the brakes.

Re: Upgrading from JK - Wheel/tyre Question

17" wheel will fit on a regular V6 which does not have the HeavyDuty Brakes.
33" tires will not fit without a lift. (and/or fender trimming?? Not sure)
Your MT wheels.... depends on the backspace. I assume they're probably in the 4-5 range. so they'd stick out a little bit. Depends if you can deal with it. Not sure how it would work with steering at full lock and with suspension max/min. But then again... with a lift to fit the 33's.... it could work?

Guess you better get a WK2 without HD brakes and try it! (Post pics!!!)

Re: Upgrading from JK - Wheel/tyre Question

Thanks for the help guys. After spending half the day researching it I've decided I will go with 22" wheels with either 305/40R22 or 285/45R22 Cooper Zeon LTZ or Nitto Terra Grappler

I know the tires themselves will fit in the wheel well, but the wheel will have to be perfect in terms of offset so they fit....

custom might be the only answer....sigh...

and before you all start flaming about a jeep on 22's, Ive come from a JK with 33's, and whilst they are incredible for offroad, the most offroading I have done in the last 12 months is taking my dirtbike into the bush or heading up to the snowfields, so sidewall isnt a major priority, given that it will also be a daily driver.

Re: Upgrading from JK - Wheel/tyre Question

welcome bro! No one will flame you here for 22's or 30"...LOL. We have a GREAT mix of offroad and street jeepers! The 22's will DEF. be sick! All you need is an offset in the +34 and higher range. the 2011's offset is about +56 or something like that...but some of the 2011 guys have added the +34 SRT reps and they look great! I would love to see a 2011 witht eh staggered SRt reps or oem SRt wheels. 20x9 and 20x10's

Re: Upgrading from JK - Wheel/tyre Question

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I ride my JK in Victoria, Australia. I love going out bush but havnt had a lot of time to do so lately.

I hook up my Husky TE 510 to a trailer hitch and take it to the mountains. Also head up to the snow most weekends in it....its been a beast for the 4 years I've had it and hasnt missed a beat! (Except for 2 broken windscreens and a snapped CV joint!) It has the roof off all summer and loves going to the beach!

Just got a new job and need something a little more 'grown up'...but I think I will eventually get a 'play only' JK with 4' long arm lift and 37's to go bush with.

Looking at a White WK2 Overland and want some nice 22's for it....anyone got any suggestions?

Re: Upgrading from JK - Wheel/tyre Question

Hey mate,

I'm in Perth, WA and was looking for a similar setup to what you have, I tried fitting several 17" rims at the local specialist and got some to fit with okish backspace but the clearance to the caliper was 1 - 2mm, a bit too small for my liking. So I am going for 18's the next question is what can I fit on my 18's. I have QL and want to get trail grapplers but no one can tell me if it will rub of clear, have to do some testing myself.
