I don't thing there will be any 'real' difference. The OD is about the same other than maybe a slight weight difference.

No...the tire diameter is essentially the same. The tread on the tire you choose can affect fuel economy, however.

I know that with other rims I have looked at for things like 4-wheelers, the smaller rims were also not as wide which makes the rubber bulge out more than the ones on the larger rims. This gives you more rim protection and traction due to the rubber hitting the rocks instead of the rim.

I can't remember if this holds true for the stock 20 vs 18 options from Jeep, but I think I did notice the rubber sticking out more from the rim on the 18 vs the 20 when I saw them at a dealer side by side. I'll have to look again.

Just more food for thought on the damage part of the 18 vs 20.
