What Brake Controller will work?

I am waiting for the 2014 GC diesel to be released and I will be towing.
What Brake Controller will work with this vehicle?
I ordered it with a tow package and skid plates.
My dealer is thinking only Mopar spec. controller will work due to new electronics.
Any thoughts on this. I have used Tekonsha P2 in the past with no problems but that was on 05 Liberty!

Re: What Brake Controller will work?

I would go to e-trailer.com and ask that question

Re: What Brake Controller will work?

I doubt that the nice folks at Jeep have changed anything on the wiring harness relative to brake controllers. I use a Tekonsha P3 (from e-trailer) on my MY12 and got the handy pre-wired Jeep cable from them. Total install time was about 10 minutes, including screwdriver time for the bracket. Works like a charm and the price was very reasonable.

Re: What Brake Controller will work?

I picked up a Tekonsha P3 new of of ebay for $123 shipped (best price I found anywhere) and just used the wiring pigtail that came with the jeep, spliced to the P3 wiring.

Rather than mount the controller permanently, I just screwed the P3 clip mount to an old Garmin GPS suction mount. The garmin mount is plenty strong enough to keep the controller steady and I can remove the whole thing, wiring and all, when not in use.

I think using the supplied harnesses gave just enough length to be able to reach from the windshield to the factory connector, not sure if the pre-wired harnesses are that long.

Re: What Brake Controller will work?

Thanks for the answer on the controller.
Now, I want to mount the controller on the fairing
just above my right knee. Can I do that? Someone said you can't put it there due to air bag?
I want it so I can control the trailer braking with my right hand, while not having to push down on the brake peddle with my foot. I have mounted a P2 there in my Liberty and it works perfect. Any thoughts?

Re: What Brake Controller will work?

That's where I mounted my P2 on my 2014 Overland, attached to the panel above the Air-Bag, no problems.

Like you I prefer to be able to operate the trailer brakes with my right hand when needed.
