What % larger are 275-55/20s than 265-50/20?

I had finally decided to go with the BFG AT KO2s. I found a good deal on them at Costco, but they won't install anything over 3% larger tires, company policy.

I know from other threads that they fit but, has anybody calculated the percentage that the BFGs are oversized?

Thanks in advance

A quick google search will turn up a tire size calculator that will give you all the specs. The larger tire is 4.9% larger in circumference (your speedo will read 4.9% low), and 1.5" taller.

The one thing I guarantee you will notice going oversize like that, but isn't always considered, is that the Jeep will be noticeably slower accelerating and you will likely also notice the increased weight of the tires in the handling and ride. Just something to keep in mind.

The sales guy at my local Mom & Pop tire shop said to check on the forums about that very same issue. You are the first post I've seen mention it, thank you! I was hoping that the torque on the diesel would be enough to compensate for the bigger tire size. Any comments from other diesel owners out there?

The torque helps, but you are effectively lowering your final drive ratio by 5% compared to stock sized tires. So, it would be like going from a 3.45:1 to 3.27:1. Will you notice it? Yes. Will you care? Well, that it personal preference, but be prepared to live with it until you wear out the tires.

From my experience, I would not go bigger. I did it on some GM's I had in the past and while it may have looked better, it DEFINITELY affected acceleration, handling and braking.

YMMV.

I have not noticed a big difference in acceleration as well. I have the 275/55/20 K02s and are very happy with them. I also installed a sprint booster though... that made the car feel quicker.

Costco in Canada wouldn't even let me order the tires because they were not OEM size..... right.
