Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

I am debating this for my Overland with the Fotera's. Most of my past vehicles have been RWD but even with my previous Audi Q7 I used a winter tire/rim. I have had good history with Blizzak's and Hanook iPikes. Most likely I will invest in a 18" setup.

Regards,
NHman

When my 20's come off I put on Firestone Destination A/T's. They aren't loud or rough riding. I love them and have never had a problem with snow.

Are the MOPAR 18" steel wheels the same size as the full size spare steel wheel?

Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

It's a Jeep with AWD, I will just leave the stock tires on there. I didn't need snow tires with a RWD Crown Vic with an open rear end, I doubt the Jeep needs a dedicated snow tire unless you need to make a run to the North Pole for something.

Pittsburgh does a decent job of clearing the roads but some of the hills are pretty fun with snow.

Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

I had Michelin LTX AT2s on my old JeepGC. I made it through many NH winters with those just fine. Minimal summer off-road stuff for me - dirt roads, minimal mud (except for that ONE time - UGH - I was very nearly up to the rockers in thick nasty mud along an old rail trail - but I managed to rock myself out! ).

The stock Michelins in my WK2 should suffice for this first winter at least.

Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

I will have the 20" SRT8 wheels so not sure how well they will do. That is why I am asking the question about the black steel wheels. I will be getting a full size spare steel wheel and wanted to know if I would only need 3 more from MOPAR or if they are different than the spare steel wheel.

Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

I don't understand why the stock 20's won't be fine in the snow.
My father also has an '11 Overland and his went through the Nebraska snow outstandingly last winter.

Anything will be better than the factory tires I had on my '08 Range Rover Sport. That truck/tire set-up was embarrisingly horrible in any snow whatsoever.

I bought the new Overland for many reasons, and one of them is so I didn't have to mess with putting winter tires on a vehicle that is designed from the factory to trek through the mud, the blood, and the beer.

Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

I felt very comfortable last winter with the stock 20's during Chicago winter. However, I havent experienced a dedicated winter tire.

You are right and they will be "Fine". The will however not be "Great", if you want to be that person who is the only other person on the road than the snow plows than you want a dedicated winter tire.

They are all season. Meaning they are not great in the summer or winter. You can buy an all season jacket but if you live somewhere where winter is snowy and freezing you are going to be a lot more comfortable in a winter jacket.

Re: What tires are you running for the winter?

For my ordered 2012 Laredo X I purchased from TiresbyWeb 4 18" Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 SUV studded snow tires. I will be mounting them on steel Sport Edition SX wheels (OZ Racing Alleggerita SX) I ordered from autopartswharehouse.

As I ofter drive in Vermont snow/ice on my way to the slopes and I find studded snows are the only way to go. I have used Nokian Hakkapeliitta's on my 98 Durango and my wife's previous 94 and now 2006 Grand Cherokee. Both the performence and wear characteristics have been excellent
