Re: Wheel Alignment Specs JGC with Quadralift

All we discussed relates to Primary Angles. Has anyone had the know with regards to Secondary Angles?

Re: Wheel Alignment Specs JGC with Quadralift

Long story short, no vehicle will drive the same even if the angles are set dead spec identical on each one of them. Pending none of the suspension componets are worn/damaged, and a "radial pull" has been ruled out, a simple front caster offset can cure a huge majority of vehicle drift issues without sacrificing vehicle handling or any additional tire wear.

Not pointing fingers, but you'll be hard pressed to find a dealer that will perform such a task let alone actually adjust the front camber/caster on our WK2's without having to make a return trip.

The files that Fnkychkn posted are the same that I have access to via the FSM on the dealer site. I could easily add them to the WK2 site, good idea.

I never noticed it before but the negative camber is quite obvious looking from the front. Looking back the SVM Artarmon wheel alignment report at the 10,000km service, it was quite evident back then. I don't recall them making a fuss over it but they charged me $47.50 regardless. I'm going to take it to a body shop to see if they can do something. The take away here is that the WK2s may not be as strong as we like to think.
Took some measurements myself and found that the top of inside shoulder of the right tyre was about 6mm closer to the steering knuckle than on the left. That would account for about 1 of negative camber. This could only mean that the right steering knuckle is bent. The steering knuckle is that humongous solid vertical cast steel member to which the hub is attached. They can be straightened but apparently not legally so I'm up for a new one. Sutton's Parts quoted me $823. I've ordered one off eBay for $479.75. Fingers crossed that it arrives.

I got the part last Friday so that was 9 days from the States, not bad. It came in the original Mopar box which wasn't really designed for oversees shipping but there was no damage to the item. I got Quickfit at Hornsby to install the new steering knuckle, do a 4 wheel alignment and balance. They did it for $400. So all up it cost me $880 which is only $57 more than Suttons quoted me for the part alone. Steve at Quickfit managed to get everything within tolerance except the right front caster which was just 0.1 out. Unfortunately, Steve wasn't able to get the new preferred front L&R cambers but it was still within tolerance. The Jeep still pulls slightly to the left. It seems the poor thing must have got quite a battering. Anyway, many thanks to Steve and highly recommended, see Quick Fit Motor Services - Automotive Service Specialists . I've attached the spec sheet I gave Steve to work off.

Is the PDF spec applicable to 2014 JGC?

I don't see why it wouldn't but I have no way of confirming it.

Re: Wheel Alignment Specs JGC with Quadralift

In my post above Wheel Alignment Specs JGC with Quadralift I've attached a PDF of the wheel alignment specs for RHD cars as best we know them at the moment. It includes the acceptable range. It occurred to me that this might not be a good idea. The acceptable range is there for the benefit of the dealer not the owner. One might bring a car in for a wheel alignment expecting the dealer will adjust it as close to the preferred setting as possible. The dealer checks it and finds everything within the acceptable range. He does nothing, why should he, but he charges for a full wheel alignment. The owner is none the wiser.

The following is an example of how ludicrous it can be. The preferred setting for the front camber is L -1.07, R -0.67. The higher negative camber on the left is to counter the road cross fall for RHD cars. However, the acceptable range allows one to go from L -0.47 to R -1.27. This would give completely the reverse effect. So my suggestion is to supply the preferred setting only. I've revised the PDF accordingly and attached it.
