Wheel bearing quote

Hello,

I have a 2011 Jeep GC Laredo. I need a rear wheel bearing. The dealer quoted me for diagnostics, parts, and labor $550. ($670 if I need a hub) I have nothing to compare to and being new to Jeep does that seem high?

I haven't found a good independent shop yet so I ended up at the dealer for this one

Re: Wheel bearing quote

How handy are you? This isn't next level stuff. IMO slightly more difficult than swapping out brake pads. If it's something you can do yourself, I imagine you'll save at least half that.

Changing out front hubs in my old AWD SUV cost me $200 and about 2 hours time. I am by no means a wrench, but I do know how to do a few things. This was self taught as I went...

WOW that seems like a LOT!! I know not everyone can do this kind of thing yourself, but if you wanna save like $500 bucks, do it yourself lol

Re: Wheel bearing quote

I ordered this factory service manual CD from eBay. Over 11,000 pages. Less than $10.00 shipped.
2011 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Factory Service Repair Workshop FSM Manual | eBay

It says 2011 - 2015 but when I received the CD it was marked 2011 - 2013.

Re: Wheel bearing quote

Thanks for the quick replies and thanks for the link Governor. I think I will be ordering that manual for future use...especially at that price.

Believe me I did think about doing it myself. I don't think I give myself enough credit, as I do have some mechanical skills. For me it's the confidence I need more of. In this particular case I just don't have the confidence level for this job.

I did just go to some of those car repair estimator sites (I should of done that before) and 3 of them are saying between $529 and $625, but that seems to be including the hub assembly. According to these sites (for what they are worth) the parts and labor seem to be about the same cost.
