Can someone tell me If I bought a set of Wrangler Sahara 18" wheels what would be the effect of putting them on my WK2? I know the size of the wheel is the same and the bolt pattern but not sure about the offset. thanks
I have them on my WK2.
They are 7.5" width instead of 8"
Offset is ~45mm instead of ~56mm
I am running them with the stock Wrangler Sahara Bridgestone Dueller ATs in 255/70/18 (32" tire dia.).
They work fine. No issues.
There is however very narrow clearance between the front of the brake caliper and the back side of the wheel face. Probably only a few millimeters. I have had zero issues so far and that includes driving on beach sand and dunes and through some 12-18" creeks with lots of rocks.
I am pick up a set on Thursday based on Jayb's posting. I am going to use them for off road and snow duty. I like the idea of the thicker sidewall and found a brand new set off 5 with less then 200 miles for 800.00.
I acquired used Sahara's 17" for my winter tires and although they fit in circumference the back of the face of the wheels rubs against the calipers and there is no room inside the rim to add stick-on weights. I called the dealership and they recommended bringing the GC in and they will install my winter set-up with with wheel spacers. The dealership gave me the impression that it was not the first time they had to so for a client. Hopefully they can otherwise I will have a set of nice Saharas 17 for sale.
Anyone have had experience with wheel spacers? are ther known issues with these?
Thanks in advance and I will report back once the everything is on.
Guess I should have clarified... the Sahara's I have are 18".
I assume the clearance issue would only require small spacers... but who knows. If they are hubcentric you should not have any issues.
Thanks JayB for this advice, I will make sure to ask for the Hubcentric kind. I was concerned about spacers not being exactly balanced due to the five holes in them. If it was a four or six bolt system, its easy to imagine that each hole has a direct opposite which would naturally balance the item. However, this being a five hole it is likely to add some measure of unbalance to the wheels? and since the wheels are balanced without the spacers on then the added weights can't correct it.
