While changing out the lug nuts to black yesterday I noticed the drivers side wheels are scratch. Very fine and near the outside. Any ideas? Truck is a month old.

Looks just like what a low quality tire brush at a cheap budget car wash will do. Not saying you do but if you use car washes stay away from the cheapo gas station minimart ones and pay the extra for the premium ones, makes a difference on how they treat the finish.

Looks like a cat saw his reflection in them and attacked.

Re: Wheel scratches??

Porter cable 7424 DA polisher
Can't harm your finish on a car unless you throw it at the car
Took similar scratches right off my rim, hood and other places

Re: Wheel scratches??

Yeah, I read here that someone had a similar experience running theirs through a typical car wash.
I typically wash mine by hand, but when it gets too cold out here (below freezing) I take mine to a "touchless" car wash. Comes out great and I get a chassis rinse as well to get most of the nasty stuff off during snow season (now)

Probably have to follow Da Jeeper's advice and either polish them out yourself or have it done professionally.

Let us know how it comes out

Re: Wheel scratches??

Some rubbing compound may help get some of the scratches out and then I would throw a coat of wax on them! Good luck!

Re: Wheel scratches??

Treat them as you would the body of your Jeep. It's just paint with clear coat. A DA polisher will get those looking better than new.

GL!

Re: Wheel scratches??

Thanks guys, my buddy owns a car wash and I sent him the pics. He said it is 100% a carwash and they are fully responsible. They car wash is a pretty good one and not your typical gas station one. I am not buffing or going to use any products on them. My truck is a month old and I paid a lot of money for it. I want it back 100% to original and if that means they will have to buy tow new OEM rims, so be it. They have insurance for this reason.

hmm yeah that would be unusual for a premium wash to damage them like that, especially if vehicle is only a month old. Maybe they had some issue going on with the wheel brush. I have not hand washed a car in over 15 years but when I car wash I always spend the extra on the high end car washes and have never had an issue with paint finish scratching at all. I can usually get the $25 wash down to $17 with coupons and buy 10 get 1 free.

Yeah me too, this is a better of the car wash places. I usually spend $20-25 a wash and they do the whole truck and armorall everything and vacuum. Live and learn. I will use a touchless wash from now one, not sure where the closes one is though.

I went into a cheapy "touchless" one time many years ago thinking how can they mess up a touchless wash. well water jets are spraying and all is going fine and then theses huge spinning plunger looking brush things come out of the wall and smack against all four wheels and the whole car starts shaking. well I didn't really like that and almost put the car in gear and hit the gas lol. So ya I agree with you can be hard to find a good one. Those black wheels you got will definitely show scratches a lot more that the polished alloy I have. Good Luck

Re: Wheel scratches??

I had that exact same problem on my Altitude front wheel, from looking at pics of them when they are delivered to the dealership before prep there is writing on the front wheel with a crayon of some sort from the factory. I'm assuming that when the car wash guy at the dealership prepped it for delivery he scrubbed it with something that caused the scratches....
