I remove dam if sand is really powdery.

You'll be fine up in Carova. I had no problem with a Tahoe (hybrid) with only 8.5" of clearance up front. Just go SLOW when you see more ruts. Funniest thing is seeing a beautiful Escalade with no front air dam since it was ripped off by hitting those ruts too fast.
