I'm all for reusing parts and whole cars as far as I'm concerned.
Overhauling an engine, repainting a 1960 jeep and using it, are in my mind more noble then buying a new one.
Whan it comes to critical components, however you need to use judgment. You would not put an old oil pump that looks kind of Ok in a rebuilt engine.
The process of retreading does exactly that, critical part of the original tires are used and these parts have performed the planned life cycle already, no one knows the abuse they took, or the milage.
So when the only connection between you and the highway at 65 mph or you and the cliff at 5 mph are these 4 rubber points, don't get cheap, get safe!
After all when that catastrophe happens to you, I may be the next car over........
