Re: Who has BFG Rugged Terrains?

The AT/3 is a good tire, but bear in mind that it gets noisier and noisier as they age. I don't care what anyone else says, they are horrible in ice. Good in snow, but awful in real icy conditions, unlike their "Weather Master" dedicated winter tire which is real good.

Even though the tread last long, the rubber gets harder with time and become real slippery in ice/wet and very noisy as well. I also lost 3-4mpg after switching, I guess they are real heavy.

I am actually looking for a replacement for my 2015 Altitude so I'll be following this thread.

Good luck!

Greetings,

The AT/3 was updated to the AT/W with the snowflake symbol. You are correct, as AT tires age, the do become noisier.

Besides this thead check out as well:

so, snows or good A/T replacement

Plenty of AT tires here on the forum to search as well.

Best for now.

the coopers have a $70 promotion right now, so consider that as well. At least at Discount Tire Direct they do.

Unless something changes my mind between now and tomorrow afternoon, I think I'm gonna blaze a new trail and try the Mickey Thompson Baja STZ. Haven't found a negative review yet, and one of the least expensive options.

Greetings,

The Mickey T's have been traditional a hard tire. Very durable tread compound. You can most likely drive right into the job site as long you do not hit any nails. As for the winter, the tread pattern looks excellent for snow. Their is siping which will help with the ice. The question is how much, many AT tires have siping but do not have the gripping power at lower temperature ranges.

So the question to ask yourself is how bad is it in my area when an ICE storm hits? In any event, ice is ice.

Best for now.
