Why no 20"s on the Off Road Adventure Group II ?

Hi guys,

I've used the advanced search and didn't find this discussion. I just ordered a 2012 Overland. I really wanted the Off Road Adventure Group II (Overland) package but giving up 20" wheels for 18" was not a option

Does anybody know if there is "real" reason why there is no package for 20"s?

Thanks,
BBjr

20" wheels are for street use only. Theres not as much sidewall as well.

Re: Why no 20"s on the Off Road Adventure Group II ?

Thanks for the reply. So it's safe to say there is no known mechanical limitations like clearance that is introduced with the off road option? I generalize, but I'm specifically talking about the skid plates. So I could put the skids on and run the 20"s then, if I want to head into the white mountains or up to Maine for some off road I could put the 18"s on.

One of the Summit editions come with 20s and the skid plates standard, so there isn't any problem with clearance.

That's going to be a trick. A 50 series sidewall just doesn't offer much protection... taking a 20" rimmed WK2 off roading would basically be screaming aloud for a blown tire and busted rim on anything more than an extremely gentle trail.

The biggest tire I have seen fit {and it just barely makes it} is a 275-55-20 Cooper Zeon AT which is a very very nice AT tire that performs well at highway speeds as well.

Trust me on this one. Running 20's off road is a bad financial decision. I took my wk2 summit out with a 1000 miles on it and sliced my tire on some shale gravel. I also damaged the rim a little. You can run 20's if you want but at $200.00 a tire mounted it gets expensive fast. Also you can't really "air down" a 50 series 20" tire.

Then again if your going for looks. I say go for it. It would probably look pretty sweet.

How about the Nitto Terra Grapler in 275/55/20?

Re: Why no 20"s on the Off Road Adventure Group II ?

In my opinion, the biggest let down of NOT getting the Off Road Group and going for the 20" wheels are that you don't get the Rear Electronic Limited Slip Differential aka Quadra Drive II option, IF your getting the 2012 Overland with a Hemi.

I'm pretty sure you can't get the 20's on a Summit w/ORAII (Hooks/Skids) factory equipped. They won't let you order it that way. ORAII must come with 18" wheels/tires, not the 20's.

You can add the skids as a Mopar accessory and have your dealer install them before pickup.
