Re: why's my spare a 245/65/18 - tires are 2665/50/20
The "full size" spare is the same diameter as the tires on the four corners and has the same load rating. It's a little narrower so it fits under the cover properly. Unless you up-size your tires, there's no practical reason to change it...it's only used as a spare and is otherwise hidden away. If you do upsize at the four corners, you technically need to upsize your spare as well because with 4WD vehicles, it's a must to have all tires the same diameter to avoid damage to the drive train. A larger spare may not fit well in the space provided and certainly will at least require removal of the storage bins that surround the OEM spare.
