Winter wheels for snow tires?

Hello Jeep Garage,
Hi first time posting on any forum so please bear with me. I just bought a 2014 Overland Diesel. V nice I have to say. I live up in the mountains North of Vancouver BC and need snow tires and steel winter wheels, as salted roads do not help the alloys. I asked Kal tire about wheels and they said I have to buy new wheels from Jeep? Seems odd? I only want steel rims to mount snow tires on (make my life easy for swap to summer tires/wheels as change myself with trolley jack and stands.) Does anyone know if this is true or are Kal tire talking garbage.
Thanks in advance of any replies

talking garbage! as long as the wheels are the correct specs you are good to go!

not sure if the dieasel will support 17" or just 18"... but you do not need jeep wheels!

search ebay and craigslist (or whatever you have available) for the best deals

Re: Winter wheels for snow tires?

You can buy any brand of wheels as long as they are the correct size and have the same bolt pattern as the stock wheels. You will need rims that are at least 18" in order to clear the brake calipers because of the larger brakes on the diesel (and HEMI).

They may be misquoted. Jeep does have steel wheels available.
Unique does, or at least did--maybe they just don't carry them. You'll need to stay with at least 18 inchers since you have the diesel with the heavy duty brakes.

mfa81: thanks for swift reply. I thought so re wheels. Only thing could think off was some fancy sensor built into wheel? but good to hear I can get some wheels without having to use dealer. Thanks again Bikerbrown

Re: Winter wheels for snow tires?

you probably could get cheaper wheels but if you wanted 18" Jeep steel wheels this is it

this is the same wheel that the spare tire in your truck is mounted on:

Jeep Grand Cherokee Wheel - 18" Stamped Steel (Part No: 68051987AC): MoparOnlineParts.com

don't forget to get 4 tire pressure monitors - TPMS - for your new wheels

Re: Winter wheels for snow tires?

Thanks. Have 4 20" winter tires in post so will need 20" rims. Might just use summer rims this winter and have a good look see in speing for the rims. Thanks for the help.

The Mopar wheels use addon sensors. For the '14 I would recommend a wheel dealer that will install the Mopar genuine article of TPMS--no programming, no nothing required.

I did notice Tire Rack had no basic steel wheels available in 18 inch for the 14, but I dunno what kind of mail order you have up north. If you can't locate steel cheaply, I'd get a simple dish. I picked some bitchin looking Vision Tech, but their more open spokes allows ice to build up more than a simpler dish would have.

PS: Can you guys take Ted Cruz back? We can make you a package deal of him and Bieber...

Re: Winter wheels for snow tires?

I would think aluminum would hold up a lot better than rusty steel wheels in salt and winter garbage personally. I went with a set of Aluminum wheels with my winter tires. I priced steel wheels compared to cheaper aluminum ones and it wasn't that much more to get aluminum and now I don't have to deal with rusty wheels down the road. Did I see you say you got 20" winter tires? Ouch. I downsized down to 17" from 20" on mine for winter

Re: Winter wheels for snow tires?

Yes went with 20" been told smallest could go with wheel size would be 18" due to size of break calipers on the deisel. Guess could have gone smaller.
