Re: Winter wheels/tires installed on my limited

In 20+ years of swapping out my own wheels I've never used a torque wrench on the lugs. I even own two just don't feel it's necessary. Hand tight is good enough.

Re: Winter wheels/tires installed on my limited

I check the torque on wheels every couple of months and when I change over from winter ties or two winter tires I check and verify the torque to prevent warped rotors etcs. Same if I have tires rotated with an oil change I get home and first thing I do is check torque. I have been known to check torque in the dealers parking lot. Get 1/2" drive torque wrench from Sears and thin walled i/2' drive deep impact socket. One day I get a nice Snap On torque wrench.

Never verified torque with BMW when I got back from the shop since I had seen the owner check torque with his Snap On. No impact guns and sticks.

Re: Winter wheels/tires installed on my limited

Some folks can get pretty close to 110 ft/lb quite accurately. Some end up with warped rotors trying.

A decent click stop torque wrench is pretty inexpensive and quite easy to use and should outlast the owner.

Re: Winter wheels/tires installed on my limited

I use a torque wrench on mine. I just swapped back to summer tires and this reminds me I need to go out and recheck the torque since it's prob been 100 miles since I swapped them. Always check your wheel torque after someone works on them too. Mother inlaws one wheel came loose and almost fell off 3 miles from a jeep dealer once.
