WK2 rims and tyres

Hi guys! Cheers from Tasmania, Australia!
I'm keen to start to modify my GC Limited in order to have some offroad fun. Mine came with the 20'' Kumho tyres (they are terrible, I know). So, I'm looking for options since I'm expecting to replace them sooner than later. I've read a lot here about the best option for offroad being the 18'' rims, and I'm just wondering if anyone has good experience with 20'' on the WK2. I really like the looks on the 20''. BFGoodrich KO2, Cooper LTZ and Nitto Terragrapler 275/55R20 look nice, but I have read some mixed reviews on different forums. Has anyone had some experience with them? Mud, snow, rock, sand, road... I'm not that much concerned about on road noise since the Kumho sounds like a chainsaw... I don't get how they selected such a poor tyre as OE for such a nice car...
On the bucket list, I already have the suspension lift kit, so I believe OD will not be an issue.

Enjoy your ride!

Re: WK2 rims and tyres

Welcome to the forum.

The 20's are okay for lighter offroading but they are susceptible to getting bent with the shorter sidewall height of the tire. The 18's give you a little more sidewall to soak up impacts. There are also more tires available to select from in the 18 size.

That's not saying the available tires for 20's are inadequate, it's that there are 18's better suited for that use.

Thanks Bones!
I'll probably look for a set of 18'' for offroad... I'll search the forum threads to check what are some of the tyre options...
