Does anyone have any pics of a WK2 with 17" Rubicon wheels?
Can they fit over the standard brakes or does one need spacers?
I know this has probably been asked a bunch... but... pics please.
The 17 inch moab wheels (off Rubicons) look great on GCs and are pretty easy to find in near new condition. Once you lift a wrangler you have to run spacers on them to prevent rubbing at lock with larger tires (35 and up) so lots of people just ditch em. I did.
These look very good. I was thinking of doing the same on mine for my winter tires. Did the core fit or is there some play? Also, I am still debating between 17's or 18's for winter, I am going down from the summer's 20's. I saw a comment here about the need for 18's if you have the HD brakes, do you know how to determine if it is so equiped? I have the 70th Anniversary Edition.
I just bought a set of 18" rims and tires from a wrangler off kijiji. I wanted to use them for winter tires as well. They are Bridgestone Dueler A/T P255/70R18.
Does anyone know how they perform as winter tires?
Good idea, I will start looking on Kijiji also. Any indication of the price you paid?
Also, the type of tires depends on a whole lot of factors. Depending of what you do with the Jeep and what kind of winter conditions you have in your area. I did a bit of research on this and, the Dueler appears to be a nice tire for off-roading but more of a Mud & Snow type (formerly known as all season)In this brand I like the Blizzaks for tough winter conditions including driving on shear ice. I will probably choose the DMV1 like many others have said they did if you look in the winter tires tread.

I got them for $600. The rims look like new and the rubber has 20,000 kms on them. the rubber looks almost new. I was gonna put the DMV-1's on the 18's but the rubber is almost perfect I thought I'd save a few bucks. The tread is more aggressive than the 20's that come on the jeep. Costco priced me 1134 installed after tax to mount the DMV-1's.
I think you made a great deal here. I just noticed that you are in Ontario and I am in Quebec and after much online shopping I found the best deal for the 18's is at Tirerack.com around $900 delivered (install is extra) and they will deliver them to a local CAA recommended mechanic.
Best regards,
P.S. I should have added that due to Quebec's law the mud & snow tires are not permitted between Dec. 15 and March 15. I believe it is the only legislation to have legislated this. Which will explain my bias towards the DMV1's over Duellers or WRanglers which are great tires for winter.
So, I am just about to pull the trigger on a set of the Sahara 18's. Can any of you guys speak as to the largest tire that will work with the quadralift at normal ride height? Can I go 275 width with these wheels?
Okay thanks for the info. Just to be absolutely clear though: I understand that 275/65/18 will fit the JGC, but will that size be okay on the sahara wheels? Given the offset/and dimensions that wheel? It might be kind of a stupid question...
and that is a good point misfit....I am looking at a set of 5 perfect wrangler sahara take-offs WHEEL ONLY for $400. not a good price?! I just really like the look of this wheel even over the mopar accessory wheels and a lot of aftermarket choices..It will be used as an extra/winter/offroad set.
Also what is the difference between light truck LT275/65/18 and passenger P275/65/18? Would the LT tires be sidewall load rating "E" and the P tires sidewall load rating "C"? I have heard that the "C" sidewall rating can be a little "spongy" on highway with heavier vehicles. Is the JGC Hemi to be considered heavy enough to warrant an LT (or "E"?) tire? The price difference is pretty significant (+~$50/tire). I am still deciding whether to go GY Wrangler Duratrac or GY Wrangler Silent Armor. I want to get at least 50,000 miles out of whatever I choose, and snow/ice capability is paramount.
Stock 20" tires are a 111 load rating standard load not XL. A C load rated tire would be borderline honestly. A D load rated tire is ideal I believe. E load rated will be very stiff as they are really designed for hd trucks.
When I had my old XJ, the walmart tire (Liberator) the LT has a lesser load range than the P, but had more tread and lower speed rating. I think th P had more millage warranty as well.
P235/75R15/XL 108 S 13/32"
LT235/75R15/C 104 Q 14.5/32"
So, I don't know about the paperwork...but according to goodyear, the LT has 17/32" tread versus 13/32" tread. So it would appear that the LT will wear longer and likely have a stiffer ride. Good idea or no?
