Re: 2015 Altitude Build

Hey man good looking Tude! The Red tow hooks are awesome

A few questions:

-Do you have the factory 9 speaker stereo system? If so, did you amp the Focals?
-How are you liking the Dynamat? Has it made a difference on road noise?

Re: 2015 Altitude Build

Its the standard 6 speaker set up. The Focals are currently running off head unit power. I only applied Dynamat to the outer surface of the plastic piece that bolts to the metal door skin (as pictured), and not the inner door skin itself except for a small 8x8 inch section directly behind each speaker. It seems as though the plastic door panel, along with the window motors and everything else would need to be unbolted and removed to get good access to the inner door skin. Not much room just through the speaker holes. Road noise does not seem to have decreased, but the doors sound a tad more solid when opening and closing. Bass response with the Focals running off of headunit power is fantastic, but not sure if the Dynamat helps with this, although its supposed to.

Very nice! Was adding the tow hooks a hectic project?

Likewise. Don't live in Omaha anymore, but know exactly where your photo was taken.

Looks sharp. Looking forward to seeing your future upgrades.

Re: 2015 Altitude Build

Got the amp and sub installed finally. Couple of past weekends it was really nice out and took advantage of the good weather to tool around on the two wheel toys. The amp fits great under the front seat in the cubby hole. Nice
clean, and stealthy. The stock cover for the hole fits well enough to work, but won't fit flush with the RCA and amp power/ground wires running outside the box. I used the JL RCA to speaker wire adaptors for the RCAs and KnuKonceptz wire all around. Plenty of room all around to route wires. 4 runs of speaker wire on the left side up to the factory wires right off the head unit, RCAs under the left side of the center console with 4 gauge power/ground wire running under the center console hooked directly up to the battery.

Trent, adding the tow hooks was quite easy. Several threads on here regarding the install.

Nice looking. I may have seen yours around (since there's not too many of us in the area)

Re: 2015 Altitude Build

Well, after defending the ISS 690s ever since installing them in my WK2, I bought and installed the Alpine Type R tweeters (SPR-10TW). I thought the Focal TIS tweeters were really crisp, and every detail of songs could be heard, but they did cause significant ear fatigue and the wife HATED them. Having enough of turning down or turning off the stereo to give my ears a rest and hearing the wife complain about the 'ice pick in her ear' sound I bought the Type Rs and left the Focal 6x9 woofers installed. Definitely not as crisp or incredibly detailed as the Focals, but still sound very good and they do not hurt the ears at all. With some minor trimming they fit very well inside the factory tweeter cups. The extreme 'brightness' of the Focals always kind of bothered me, but I am very happy with the overall sound now.
