8,000 Mile update

After owning my Jeep for almost 3 months, I figured it was time I posted a couple pics...actually I was just lazy..lol.

So far this GC has been remarkable. I haven't had any issues with it at all, other than connection issues with my iphone 4. I did however, get a rock thrown by a truck and it put a very small spur right in the middle of the windshield. What is remarkable about this is that it make 5 straight new vehicles that I have owned that this has happened. I do have someone coming out to put resin in it and buff it out.

I finally got a chance to use it during a 3 inch snow fall and the traction and performance were outstanding. The stock Fortera's are not bad...next year I'll buy Blizzaks but I have been very pleased with the stock tires. I also took it out on 5 miles of rough trails through mud (not deep), water and snow (that's where the pics are from) to the largest boulder field deposit in US in NE PA. It didn't even hesitate to drive right through. I'm not a serious off roader but like to adventure out from time to time and this Jeep is more than up to the task.

On road, I still think its the best vehicle I've owned. Usually at 3 months the wow factor wears off for me but it hasn't for the Jeep. It's so comfortable, quiet, and while not blazingly fast with the Hemi, its more than fine for a 2.5 ton vehicle.

My only complaint: When I'm running the heater, after sometime at a constant temp...it seems to blow cold air. If I change the temp 1 degree, it will blow warmer air again but then go back to blowing cold air. This also occurred on my Charger in 2007 but dealer couldn't figure out problem. I plan on having dealer look at it when it goes in for its first 8K maintenance but don't expect them to find anything.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Jeep as much as I am. I enjoy reading the posts and gaining lots of info on this forum. I do appreciate the knowledge, openness and candid discussions on this forum. Please keep it up!

If anything crops up as a problem...I will certainly let everyone know!

Regards,
Chris

Re: 8,000 Mile update

Glad you're enjoying the Jeep.
My only explanation for the temperature change is that I know some vehicles will automatically switch to fresh air every 20 minutes for safety reasons, ie lower CO2 levels and to keep the driver alert. Some european cars have this feature. I noticed this happening with my Jeep also on a 4 hr trip so I don't think it's a flaw. One of my previous cars, a Benz, also had this feature so I wasn't surprised when it occured.

You know that is a very good point and I didn't even think of that. The only reason I question it is because I've only experienced that with the dodge/chrysler brand and figured it was a design thing but wasn't sure. I appreciate you telling me that you are experiencing it as well...that makes me think there is nothing wrong.

Re: 8,000 Mile update

Chris,

I'm sitting at 5700 miles and couldve written the same update. Mine has been rock solid and I still look for excuses to go for a drive in it.

Cheers!

Re: 8,000 Mile update

Nice Navy1. +1 to your experience. I'd only add that this thing kicks tail in severe winter conditions. I've covered 2,500 miles in 3 months, of which 1,500 have been in subzero weather and snow. Not a hitch, not one.

Kudos for getting her on trail and boulder fields. + rep to you.

Re: 8,000 Mile update

Nice report Navy1. I just passed 2K miles in 20 days of unabashed S.E.G. ownership. I am in complete agreement with you about this vehicle. I also experienced the cool air effect during about Hour 5 of a 6.5 hour drive home yesterday. Noticed it but chalked it up to auto temp control which is how I had HVAC set. I also am hearing a sliding sound from inside the dash on the shotgun side occasionally. I am not too concerned about any of this.

Would have enjoyed some pics from your rock crawl. You are brave for doing that on the painted 20's!! And nice front tag, too.

+1 to this, especially when it gets really nasty.

When most choose to snuggle in front of the fireplace due to winter conditions and the Colorado Dept of Transportation is issuing extreme weather warnings and closing mountain passes, I'm chomping at the bit to get after it.

Same here. My wife starts trying to hide my keys every time it begins to snow.

Here is the link I bought the plate from. From the menu on the left...just choose USA european plates and you can customize it and get your state flag...pretty cool.
