I will be in Sedona over Valentines day and I was going to rent a Jeep or 2 quads or a side by side ATV. I am flying in.

Yes I have driven my Jeep off road. Nothing to brag about by your standards there but I did it at an OHV park in Indiana and also in Wyoming. And yes, mine has ORA-2. But it also comes with acceptance of its limitations, such as lower speed and reduced articulation. ORA-2 is not meant for anything but negotiating over rocks and fording water, not for rally raid, Dakar style at high speeds.

When I asked you the question I had just finished reading an article on the Dakar rally. It was won by a RWD car. Yes fantastic achievement but it comes with a bit of cheating: much bigger tires (37" allowed for RWD vs. 33" for 4WD) and a 550 kg (yeah, kilogram) lower minimum weight than the 4WD. Which got me thinking why do manufacturers like to struggle by looking at highly customized one -off models like the RWD Peugeot or you with the QT-1 and so many more add-ons when they could achieve the same off road prowess much easier, by working from an existing proven platform like their WRC cars (or a Jeep with a low range gearbox) ?

Ill only reference the end of that...the low range gearbox. I have taken my Jeeps to the limits I plan to take them to. They arent meant, nor will I use them for "rock crawling" or anything that is meant for solid axle participation. To that end, I never needed 4L. I flicked it on once, to say I used it, in my 12...but nothing I do requires it. The computer and mechanics behind the dial of goodies is really just modern extras. I like to control everything myself with engine braking and pedal manipulation. downhill assist is not my cup of tea by any means. I do see their positive sides, I just dont need them. Ill get back to you after i go to Moab this summer tho. haha.

Seriously, message me when you get in town. Ill go with you to Broken Arrow or Cliffhanger in Sedona, it'll be a good time. Definitely check out Barlows Jeep rentals....they have nice rigs.

How do you keep from pin striping your GC with the brush on the trails and did anyone scrape that wall on the end of that video? I love that fact that you get to push your GC to the "limit". there really is not any where near to me that I could do that.
