Curious to see if there are any saddle interiors out there yet. The race is on to see who will be the first. Whats your guess as to when the first will surface ?

^^i don't care how you justify it....poor customer service is poor customer service. Even if you buy off the lot sooner or later you will deal with them and then you will understand....

New vehicle roll-outs are filled with anticipation, suspense, disappointment, jubilation, and a laundry list of emotions. I think some folks would be better off to buy a new car from dealer inventory...than to order a first-year model with yet-to-be-seen, late-availability options...and a tight time line requirement.

This is the third time I bought a new roll-out vehilce...its always the same....there's lots of unforeseen issues to slow things down. I'm just saying. :D

(But if MINE isn't on time......grrrrrr! ;) )

I would if I could, but they don't have what I want on dealer lots. There are a million Laredos out there though.... How many months, from the time ordering opens, is a reasonable wait in your mind for a vehicle built in our own boarders? I waited less time for a limited production vehicle to be built and cross the ocean than I'm waiting for a standard production vehicle built right here in America. With a new model year every 12 months, waiting more than 3 months, if that happens, for an order seems ridiculous....

#267 ·
actually your wait starts from the day that saddle with the tech pack goes into production. I believe that was Nov 16th. IMO...you have only been waiting for 5 days. IMO....you ordered on Sept 18th...but knew the saddle and tech package would be/could be delayed until Nov/dec.

#268 ·
Yeah, well.......(1) mineral gray (2) Saddle....and (3) Tech package were all late availability items....and none were available when your order was placed. (mine either for that matter....but I only had one late availability item ;....and I'm not in the same bind as you.)

Been around industrial production all my life....and new things don't always go as planned. Just saying. :D

Let's hope you get some good news in a day or three. :)

Can we call this a push? Technically those late availability options were supposed to start production Oct 1 (I know for a fact Mineral Gray was, not sure on Saddle and tech package), and then once Oct hit it got pushed to Nov. So I'm sure rdalcanto was expecting production to start on time based on info he was given.

I think manufacturing vehicles is probably a lot tougher than any of us realize and you have to expect delays especially with items not even being manufactured yet.

But there are those that ordered back in July and everything has been built but no delivery. I can't even try to explain that at all, and that just sucks for those jg members.

It's all good. I don't have a beef with any of the members here. This forum is awesome thanks to people like Scottina. If I get my Jeep around 12/12, I'll be happy. What has me worried, is that there are two divergent streams of information. When I call Jeep customer service, they tell me the info that Milous has, which is my jeep will be built by 11/30. But I also saw the screen my dealer uses on dealerconnect to track his orders, and my status, like that of others on this forum, seems to have gone backwards from D1 back to D a few days ago. If my delivery gets pushed into 2011, then I will be very unhappy.... The only good thing about a January build, is that they will have finally used up all the faulty axle isolators they know about, and will be building with the new batch. Can you imagine if I did that in surgery? I'm sorry Mrs. M, we know that the screws I'm about to use to hold your spine together might break, but we have a bunch left over, and can't start using the good ones until these are all gone....

Chrysler is not in the business of special orders. This is a hot model out right now and a lot of people special ordered to get the features and colors not available at the beginning. This of course is causing a lot of logistic issues and delays.

For a streamlined ordering process Mini Cooper has it down pat. Since you can configure a cooper in over a million different ways most people special order those. You can track up to the minute just where your car is in production and what boat and port it will come in on.

Maybe not for the Grand Cherokee but for some of Chrysler.
Look how the 500 will be marketed
this is from the WSJ today

By JEFF BENNETT

For the launch of the Fiat 500 subcompact, Chrysler Group LLC is giving car buyers something they don't usually see these days: a dizzying array of options and feature choices.

Fiat showed off the 500 model at the Los Angeles car show this month. It will be sold in the U.S. in January.
The car, which goes on sale in January, will be available in three versions—"Lounge," "Sport" and "Pop"—offering 14 exterior colors, 14 seat colors, six wheel styles and a range of graphical designs that can be applied to the car's body panels, allowing customers to make their Fiat just about the only one of its kind.

All told, there will be about a half a million combinations, Chrysler says.

Chrysler hopes the chance to individualize the tiny 500 will draw a wide range of customers, from teens buying their first car to baby-boomers downsizing to a smaller vehicle.

Sorry, my comment yesterday was not only a reflection of my own personal experience, but was based on what I see on this forum from others (new person comes on saying they just ordered an Overland and it will be delivered in 3 weeks....). I do believe my particular dealer was being as honest as possible when they told me 2 months (the average according to Milous). What has me coming a little unglued is the fact that nobody at Chrysler can explain to me why my dealer shows that my status has gone from D1 back to D, and if my expected delivery date still stands. I will know soon enough I guess. (My dealer did have me put down a NONREFUNDABLE $1000 deposit to order the car, even though putting my name on the order will get a car they otherwise can't get for a long time onto their lot, whether I buy it in the end or not).

I also had the dealer tell me last Thursday that my Overland (with tech, no saddle) went from D1 back to D. Milous' tracking page doesn't reflect that and when I called a Chrysler today to confirm the status, they said I was gateline status (which I understand to be D1) and my estimated ship date is still 11/19 (yes, the past). The CSR had no answers, but was at least very friendly.

Well I think the 500 is Fiat's baby and they have configured a system similar to mini's to compete. I don't think such a system is deployed to the whole Chrysler lineup. Even if they have plans for this it will be a while since the ownership is so new.

I may be taking my toys and leaving the saddle sand box my friends. Called jeep today and after first being told they have no record of my vin at all they came back
after 4 minutes and said I'm not scheduled at this time. Called the dealer and reserved a V8 overland they have coming in in the first week of december. I think the great saddle wait of 2010 is over for me.

#292 ·
Yup. According to Milous my non saddle Overland will be to my dealer not by the first week of december but by the end of this month. Sorry to bail on you guys but I'm over this. I'm starting to hate the word "saddle" and it has bad mojo at this point. Additionally, I really didn't like what I saw when DJweaver posted those photos.

I too called 1877iamjeep today and they said they have no record of my serial number, name or phone number. She said I need to call my dealer to track it. I am however listed as D1 on this site. Milous or anyone know what's going on? Not even beginning to build it yet pretty much garuntees I'm beat until at least 2011. All the holidays coming up means less time and effort will be spent building jeeps. What burns even more is seeing commercials every 5 minutes on Tv. There's a huge lack of any wk2's in the new york city area as well. For a company that was going under it seems like they're doing a terrible job of trying to save the business. I'm tempted to try to back out of my deal and get a used x5. Waiting with no indication of when it will be built seems like amateur hour to me.

#294 ·
I see you listed as Not yet scheduled.

I'm in Queens and have seen so many lately it's pissing me off. I liked it better when I was special.

I got mine!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!

After weeks and weeks of waiting, I just took delivery of my 2011 Overland with SADDLE INTERIOR!!! Yes! You heard that right!!!

Since it was dark, I did not take any pictures, but tomorrow after work I will try and take some and get them uploaded here. (This will be my first time for uploading a pic, so bear with me).

I believe Milous is the only one that knows the story, but the short version is that I actually had two Overlands on order. Both Hemi, Saddle, Off-road, Dark Charcoal. One had the 730n option, the other the 430n with Tech Pkg. I received the one with the 730n.

So far, with only 15 miles on the odometer (got it with 9), I am in love. The saddle does not look too orange (thanks Marlon) and EVERYONE at the dealership was drooling over the interior.

Right now, you can't wipe the smile off of my face! :D

Also, for anyone in the Detroit area looking for an Overland with Charcoal / Saddle, PM me and I'll put you in touch with my salesman to pick up my second order (still in D1 status).

Traveler.

Ever hear of a FLASH!?!

Seriously, congrats. I'm glad you like the look and don't think it is too orange. Would you say it is worth waiting for then?

#306 ·
Traveler, when did you order it ?

#308 ·
Long story, but I actually ordered on 9/29. BUT, the dealer took an existing order he already had in place since July and changed it to match my config. That is why I got the 730n option.

But I wouldn't use my timing as any type of benchmark. I live in the Detroit area and have a lot of friends in the industry. Needless to say I was pulling in many favors to get a November delivery, which was necessary to my purchase.

Literally, the vehicle left the line yesterday morning and I had it at the dealership before 11am today.
