He is partially correct. First off, Katzkin makes 3 different levels of seat covers, I don't recall the marketing names for it but lets just say it's low, middle and high. I used the low level product. This product has real leather used for the seat sides/bolsters, but the seating and back surface is actually a high quality synthetic/vinyl. The upper level products include more real leather. The theory with this low level product is the synthetic material is more durable then the leather so they use it for the surfaces that your body regularly contacts. If you look SUPER close you can see the grain pattern is a little to perfect to be real leather but nobody would know if I didn't tell them.

I've got 8,000 miles on the vehicle and custom interior now, absolutely no problems and it's wearing great. Still very pleased. The seat heaters have been very nice now that it's gotten colder.
Looks Good, I am looking to upgrading my laredo E as well with Katzkin soon. I am looking to do a two tone Black/Red combo. As well as the jeep logo embroidered on.

Seeing how nice yours looks has helped me go forward with this. I will make thread and post pics when done.

Re: Before and After Katzkin leather upgrade

My original plan was to try and match the brown/saddle in the overland and Katzkin does have a few options which are very close. The deal breaker was that I learned they did not have a cover for the center armrest. Most Wk2's have a leather arm rest that matches the seat color and when I tried same samples in the interior with a mismatch armrest, the aesthetic looked odd. I tried to find a shop to recover the armrest but nobody could match the Katzkin material perfectly. Making this kind of investment, it seems the safer option, for resale at least, was to keep it black.

I'd also like to point out that I actually had the Katzkin seat heater kit installed, not the Mopar kit, as I've later learned. I've read some complaints about how hot the mopar/factor seat heaters operate and I must say I have no problems w/ the Katzkin heaters. They get super duper crazy hot !!

Re: Before and After Katzkin leather upgrade

FWIW, the center console cover in my Overland isn't the same leather from the seats either, it's much less soft and lower quality (probably not Nappa like the seats). I've thought of having it re-upholstered with Nappa leather.

I'd look into buying a piece of the leather that katzkins uses for the seats to have it made into an armrest locally if you're concerned with the materials matching.

That looks nice though. I've never been a fan of the gathered look for leather, but if you like it then you should be good.

I think that will be cool, I'm thinking of black with a charcoal body insert with dove grey piping, dove grey single stitching, perf inserts and heated seats. Or just all black with perf combo dove grey/piping stitching. I have a couple of other thoughts too, but not sure yet on the tweaked designs yet.

I still haven't done this yet. May go in to order the kit from my dealer this week or next week. So within 2 weeks I should have this done.

My 2012 JGC is going to the the dealers in the morning for a black Katzkin leather installation. I'm really looking forward to the conversion.

Did you get the Katzkin installed?
I just got back from the dealer, ordered my kit. I went with the dark graphite since the samples were really close to "black" interior parts and with the red inserts. I added the red stitching. I also got the jeep logo with the mountain on top in red. I asked to have it on both the front and rear row seat backs. Parts guy said for sure in the front, will verify about the ones in the back but should be OK.

I have it schedule for a week from Monday to have it installed.
Really excited.
