Re: First Photo

Does this thing actually work? And is it legal?

Depending on the laws in your state, those covers can get you a fine.

This product is the way to go:

I wouldn't run red lights on purpose but it is proven to work. Here is an interesting article The Washington Post did on it years ago.

That spray is undetectable on your plate.

no its not, and there is case law to prove otherwise. the spray gives your plates a reflective coating which is different than the reflective coating already on the plate. very easy to spot on the road, and even easier to spot with a quick blast of your Surefire.

All they do is reflect back the camera's flash. Any light source will provide that feedback.

It might depend on your states plate. I had it on my mass plates for 3 years and my father in law who is a state cop, could not tell it was there.

Re: First Photo

I hate to be rude, but then your F-I-L isn't trained to look for it - not because he isn't a skilled officer, but because he hasn't been trained to look for it. It doesn't matter how the plate was made.

Think of it this way - this product works by reflecting back the flash from the traffic control device (in this case red light or speed cameras).... it doesn't recognize the fact that its a camera flash that it is reflecting back ..... it works from any blast of light from any light source. While it is very hard to spot without a direct light source, it is very easy to spot on a traffic stop, with the vehicle in front of you.

Again, not really worth an argument, as there is case law giving law enforcement PC to stop a vehicle for suspecting this coating is on license plates. That means there is some indicating factor that allows law enforcement to spot this coating while underway.

Re: First Photo

^Full disclosure: I'm breaking the law by speeding, looking to avoid getting caught as often, and figure it's a lower probability to get caught for using these techniques.

I realize others recommend not speeding, but that isn't possible in this case.

YMMV.

Not trying to argue, maybe in mass they that they don't look for it or not trained to look for it. I never once had a problem. Maybe if they try to find it they can, I never had that happen.

The only reason I had it was because of fast lane. Fast lane is like easy pass for tolls. I have a fast pass in my jeep and yet at least once a month it would malfunction and I would get a $50 fine in the mail. The time and effort to appeal the fine was not worth it. Once I sprayed my plates I never got another fine. Just to reiterate I didn't use it to avoid paying tolls, I used it to avoid appealing fines when the the pass malfunctioned.

I don't speed nor do I live or work in an area that uses cameras for traffic violations.
