Thank you for finding this. Under the drivers side is a hollow tub similar to the passenger side battery tub. I will be installing my Alpine PDX amplifiers in the drivers side tub. (yes they will fit) I was looking for a good hidden spot to mount them, and this is perfect!!!

Just make sure your amp doesn't overheat under there.

I don't doubt it will live longer than the usual lead-acid battery stashed underhood, but I always end up multiplying such claims by 0.5. Neither do I anticipate the roof I put on my house last fall lasting for 50 years either (the claim by the shingle maker). I know for a fact the deck stain I use does NOT last for 4-5 years.

Estimates of service life always seem to assume constant storage of 70 degrees F and the most advantageous kind of duty that could ever be imagined.
I would say it should be closer to 4-6 years. In my experience AGM batteries tend to last longer anyways. Now with moving them out of the engine compartment it should last quite a bit longer. Most people believe that batteries die because cold weather. It is actually the heat that kills them but doesnt show up until you really need every last amp to crank the engine in cold weather (tighter tolerances, thick oil, etc). With the new battery out of the engine compartment the only times it should be exposed to high heat is in a parked car outside. And that heat, although pretty toasty is nothing compared to the engine compartment temps. Even if the seat does have to come out it, it should be worth it in the long-run although AGM batteries are usually more expensive compared to identical wet-cell.

Does this mean, you cannot smoke in the car if the battery is in the car? I don't smoke, just curious.

Pretty sure the compartment would be sealed and vented in some way as to not allow an explosion if there were smoking inside the vehicle!

From the WK2jeeps.com website:

Battery location, access and removal

The battery is located under the passenger seat. A breather line runs from the battery through the bottom of the recess well to the outside of the vehicle. Remote jump-start posts are located under the hood to assist in jump starting.

Battery removal:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position. Be certain that all electrical accessories are turned off.
2. Remove the battery cover.
3. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.
4. Disconnect the positive battery cable and position aside.
5. Remove the battery thermal blanket.
6. Remove the battery hold down retainers and remove the battery hold down.
7. Remove the battery from the vehicle

also nothing listed in removal section about having to take out seat to get battery out.

Re: Found the Battery (pics)...

My old VW Touareg had its battery in the same location. However, say the battery fails (as they can and do) its going to be pretty tough to get to it since the seat motor (electric) will no longer work to move the seat for access. Though I guess you could hook up the jump points to another car to get juice to the seat.

Never thought of that.. lol

However as you mentioned jumping it would resolve that issue.
