Gone Fishing

Hello to all.

Well, it was crabbing only.

Spent New Years Eve down in mandurah, Western Australia for a spot of crabbing.

This was the first time that we had towed the boat using the Jeep and was pleasently surprised how effortless the 3.0L CRD made the journey.

The Quadralift was also great when launching and later retrieving the boat on the ORII setting as that meant no risk of getting the Jeeps bum wet with Sea water.

A question for those that also use their Jeep for boat retrieval. Do you bother to put the Jeep in Low Range when pulling the rig up out of the water on a concrete ramp or just save that for a beach sand retieval? The boat weighs about 1.5 ton and it seemed a breeze in normal range. I was just wondering what others do?

Re: Gone Fishing

I leave it in high range. My boat weighs 3500 lbs. and the Jeep doesn't strain at all. I guess if you were pulling out a much heavier boat it wouldn't hurt to use low range.

Nice boat, and great Jeep color choice.

Re: Gone Fishing

Beauty of a rig and great photos!

+1 to 77's comment, high range is plenty for the ramp unless you have snot slick algae, a mud ramp, or something unusual. My rig is roughly 5k lbs, effortless with the JGC. Gotta love the rear camera for flawless trailer engagement, eh?

Re: Gone Fishing

Yeah, that camera has saved me countless trips in and out of the Jeep in order to see how close to the trailer coupler I am.

Re: Gone Fishing

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, totally agreed re the reversing camera.

The first time I hooked up to the boat trailer I was surprised that I could actually see the tow ball and then perfectly align / distance the trailer connection. A great feature.
