Looks like he attached them with double stick tape so he can remove them with no damage once he gets over it. Not something I would do as they would be gone by the time I got out of the mall!
Totally pulls away from the beauty of your Jeep. Seriously reconsider. You can always make a mounting area in your nice finished garage for all the plates you collect from around the world. My eye looks right at the plates, which leaves me with a big distaste to actually look at the Jeep.
I think an interesting, non-legal (but single) front plate can be cool. A friend runs a German plate on the front of his Z3, though he did recently get pulled over for it.
It depends on what state are you live in. There is states required both front and rear licence plate to be mount on the car. As long as you are not covering the original licence plate, you pretty much can display any licence plate you wanted on your car.
I've had numerous german plates on various Audi's and VW's. The difference is that I didn't combine it with the legal plate, and it was mounted in an visually pleasing way.
Wow, that looks terrible, but if you like it that's all that matters. I don't even put a front plate on my cars, couldn't even comprehend doing that :-O
Some people mod their cars to attract attention. Some mods appeal to most people, and some have very little appeal to anybody but the owner.
This will garner a lot of second looks. It will most likely prompt more than a few head shakes. But somebody who recognizes what those plates are might smile and think of 'home' for a minute. No harm, no foul.
OP certainly has a rather thick skin (to those responses) and an interesting preference and rationale for the decision. Whatever floats your boat I guess. To me, a Summit is a classy affair, but adding plates like bumper stickers lowers this status considerably. Since you are at it, why don't you put a HK Taxi Fare Meter on the dashboard so you can pretend to charge passengers a fare. I have seen some of those set-ups before. Some people will really go far for nostalgic reasons. All I can say is enjoy. Thank goodness my car still looks clean
