Guess 275/65/18 Duratracs will not get me through everything! After 4 hours of digging I finally called in the Jeep club who got me out in seconds.
This is our driveway.. Been waiting months to drive in.. guess it wasn't the best idea.
Once I got stuck the Overland suspension failed. So everytime I dug deeper the tires would just go up higher.. I really regret buying the Overland.. This is the 3rd time it will be into the shop in the last 8 months for suspension.
If you left the QL in Auto then I suppose the suspension would try to adjust itself under those conditions. Wouldn't placing it in OR1 or OR2 have been a better choice?
I was in Sand/Mud in OR2. In Low and 1st gear.
Jeep is now stuck in Park or lower.. Made getting out really hard because I easily cleared items on the way in I didn't on the way out.
Last time we'll be taking it off-road.. Which is too bad since this is our driveway... but we are going to buy a Tj rubicon for the property.
Yeah I don't think tires are the issue here...my Duratracs on my Wrangler are unstoppable.
From the pic that snow appears to be very heavy and very soft. Not so sure even a Rubi could manage that. Perhaps an ATV with tracks to haul behind your JGC ...cheaper than investing in another Jeep. Food for thought.
Yeah I'm not sure if a Jeep would get though it either but at least I'd have a winch (I know I could get a winch for the grand). We aren't going to sell the grand we'll keep it and just get a Tj, 35s and a winch. I want an off-road rig anyway. If I had the cash I'd get a Unimog.
What happened was there are snow mobile tracks from the winter and I had one tire on top of the track and the other in the deeper snow. The tire slipped off the track and I got high centered on the harder snow. I had made it in about a km and was just about 300 feet from the house... I was in 4-low, 1st gear so it happened in slow motion and I knew right away I was in trouble.
I like the Jeep just don't like how the air suspension has given us so much trouble. Luckily we have the warrantee but we are now without the Jeep until Thursday... Once that is done we'll sell it just because of the reliability factor. Maybe trade for a non-overland model.
I run Duratracs on my Rubicon, pretty good tires. Your suspension let you down (pun).
Our Overland has the QL suspension as well, and after reading your story, kind of makes me weary of even attempting to go off road. Is the QL suspension failing a problem a lot of people are experiencing?
I think most of the problems with QL were on the 2011-13's. Not a lot being said on the 2014-15's. I haven't had any problems on my 14.
Personally for me, it's not so much QL as it is the dumbing down of QDII. Having LSD's both front and rear makes a difference. That's what I miss from my 02 the most.
Here is how the jeep sits waiting on parts. Going to be a full week until I have it back. Tires is really wedged against the fender. Funny thing is I get no errors now.. Suspension just keeps saying it is raising but nothing happens.
So it's now Thursday and dealership hasn't even looked at it.. Everytime I call they say they don't have it in there system. Now they are saying they might look at it on Monday. I'm taking a taxi in tomorrow to see if that will help..
May 18th is their estimate as to when they might have it fixed.. We were going to go away next week to the cottage with our boat and now we have no way to tow it.
Might trade it in for a JK Unlimited.. But my old problem is that I know I'll modify the JK and I don't want too My last JK got out of hand fast
Anyone have any ideas about how to get it up in an emergency? I can just imagine having the suspension bottomed out like that in the middle of nowhere.
I thought 'jack mode' just turned off the 'auto-level'?
edit: PS: nice looking JK-U Jeepingnet. I still have my '10 JK-U Rubicon, it's a great offroader. Lifted, factory lockers, 35" tires, bumpers and winch all add up to = confidence
There is nothing you can do if this happens. This is why we are getting rid of the Overland. We relay on our cars a lot with my wife being an on-call doctor and myself a Project Manager we are jumping into our cars and going at all hours of the day. Not to mention our summer home where this happened is an hour from good roads.
We have been driving a 2015 Limited for the last week and like it. (Rental) We might try to trade in the Overland for one and go from the v8 to v6. Just really for the reliability factory.
I will miss the Overland for the big snow storms we get.
It sounds like the air pressure is lost, too, so you might not be able to do anything even if you got control unless you could re-pressurize the reservoir.
