Won't that trailer brake controller knock your knees off getting in or out?
Actually, it's below my knee, roughly at mid calf level and has plenty of clearance, easily 4" when I'm getting in and out.. The dash slopes a lot so it's pretty far away from my legs. I have to lean pretty far forward to reach it from the drivers seat. I tried a couple areas and this was the best compromise.

A trailer brake controller sends a progressive signal to the trailer brakes based on how hard you are braking the main vehicle.

Trailer Brake Controller Information

An electric trailer brake controller is a device that supplies power from the tow vehicle to the trailer's electric brakes. Many styles are available that differ from how they look, to the number of brakes they can power, but all of them can be divided up into two main groups, Proportional or Time Delayed.

A proportional (or pendulum) brake controller senses how quickly the tow vehicle is stopping and applies the same amount of braking power to the trailer. With a Time Delayed (or solid state) brake controller when you step on the vehicle brakes a predetermined amount of braking power is sent to the trailer and then there is a delay as the unit ramps up to full braking power.

Re: It's here!

Update:

It turns out the glovebox light is tied to the dome lights and goes out with them ~ 30 seconds after you close the door so my earlier theory about the battery protection circuit doesn't hold any water. I can't recreate the issue but I plan to call it into the hotline to get it on record then stop by the dealer later this week to have them plug it into the computer to see if there are any codes. It's obviously a computer glitch that resolved itself when i rebooted the system by removing the battery lead. Hopefully it was a one time fluke.

Glad you solved it but keep us updated as the cause is puzzling.

Re: It's here!

mjw930 congrats on finally getting your ride but sorry to hear of the 2nd day glitch. I find it interesting and comforting that a power-disconnect reset the computer glitch you experienced. By "comforting" I mean it did not require a trip to the dealer to resolve initially and that it's good to know the system is simple enough that a power-disconnect is (consistently for others) an effective reboot. I'm sure you'll keep us posted if you can re-create the problem, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy your new ride.

Re: It's here!

Thanks everyone and don't let this glitch cause you too much concern if you have one or order as I think this was an isolated event.

Background: I'm a systems engineer / enterprise architect so I have a genetic defect that causes me to obsess on things and try to analyze them to death.

The only thing that changed was the addition of the trailer brake controller. The circuit is always live to this controller as per the standards for the trailer interface. The Tekonsha controller manages this by going to sleep after a period of inactivity. Even when it's asleep it draws a few milli-amps of current. It's possible the system detected this and triggered the battery saving sub routine that's present in most modern automotive control systems. What's interesting is the power was always available to the controller, even when most everything else was dead.

I opened a ticket with Jeep and will have the sytem scanned for codes Wednesday but I expect that they won't find anything. It's possible this had happened to others and if that's the case I'm hoping my detailed diagnostics (what worked, what didn't, what I changed and what I did to recover it) will help them pinpoint the offending code or module.

And I'm sure you'll need that rear defroster a lot in FLA - NOT!

Anyway, congratulations. I really like the pics with the broken up light (#5, #9) - that is a great effect on the Mineral Gray.
