Just 3 Wheels On The Ground!

So I went to have some fun on this trail I know, and I kept stopping to take pictures (see them at Base Laredo Offroad)

Well, at one point I hopped out to take a picture... and it turns out I had parked with one wheel floating!!! Now here's the really interesting part: when I got back in, I decided to reverse back out of that situation, and I got this ABS grinding sound but no movement! So I went forward instead.

OK, techies, why did my WK2 with QT1 not reverse with one wheel up??? Did all the power go to that one wheel despite the brake torque shifting that is supposed to occur (hence the ABS grind)?
WHAT HAPPENED?

P.S. Respect the 17s! Those tires on the low side of the vehicle looked about ready to blow out on me, but they didn't.

Re: Just 3 Wheels On The Ground!

I haven't seen it, but you may not have enough engine HP/torque to back out of that situation. Rock crawlers don't particularly like QT1 and brake traction.

Did you happen to try steering to the left while backing up?

PS that looks like a lot of back roads I used to run in PA, well actually looks better. Where were you riding?

Re: Just 3 Wheels On The Ground!

You probably have to press harder on the gas. I know this sounds stupid, but the BMW I had also would do the brake a spinning wheel (RWD). To me it just seemed like it made a bunch of noise and did nothing. One time when I was turning left, it went off and instead of re-actively letting up on the gas, I put the pedal to the floor (lots of abs noise). It was amazing how well the system then worked (and the car didn't fish tail). A guy at work kept getting stuck in his Toyota Tundra, I told him the same thing and after trying he said it performed much better in deep snow.

So, if you are like me that actually learned to drive in snow/off-road, your reaction is to let up on the gas to prevent a skid, when you really need to give it more gas as it takes a ton of torque and power allow the system to brake the spinning tire and get power to the other tires.
