Thumbs up Re: Mineral Grey Hemi Overland

Very nice pics! I'm looking at the same color for my GC Limited! It looks like a cross between silver and the dark charcoal (which they discontinued for 2012)

Let me know if you have any suggestions for me with regards to options (to purchase or to avoid) Planning on purchasing a 2013 with the ZF Trans & 5.7L Hemi!

Re: Mineral Grey Hemi Overland

WOW! Your pics convince me of the color! Mineral Gray looks great! One question: What is the benefit of upgrading to 20" tires vs 18"? I understand what extra tire width does with regards to traction, but what does the extra height do to the ride and handling of the GC?

Thanks!

Well, my opinion is that if you can find something on the lot you'll get a lot better price than ordering it. I couldn't find a better deal than a couple hundred off invoice for ordering a JGC, but thousands off invoice for finding one on-lot. I paid about dealer cost on Truecar, which the dealership said they could do because they would get more inventory before xmas for selling one in Nov. Here's my opinions:

Overland: Love it. IMO, limited is a must-have and the wife wanted the power liftgate so we went Overland. Summit leather is a winner.
4x4: Again, if you wanna go offroading it's a must-have. But it's $3.5K for the overland since it includes the air suspension. I wanted it and got it, wife didn't need it.
v8: I love it, but wife probably didn't need it.
Offroad package: It's nice to have the skid plates, but you give up the 20" wheels which do look better. If you want the skid plates go for it, because it's easier to have those factory and swap out to aftermarket 20" rims. I'm an aftermarket rims guy though because I like the personalized look.
Adaptive Cruise Control: Surprisingly useful on long road trips. I never wanted it, but we ended up getting it since it was on-lot and I like it alot. It's pretty impressive and while I never have used cruise control in my other cars before, I find myself using this adaptive one quite a bit.

Definitely get at least a 2012 6-speed tranny. It's way more peppy than the 2011 5 speed.

IMO 18 vs 20" handling isn't a big deal for on-road stuff. 18" is a little better, but not super noticeable. However, my baseline for this is the sports car scene where guys went from 16" stock wheels to lowering by 2" + 19" wheels. Once you're lowered and dropping the sidewall to miniscule levels, rim size is a big deal.

I haven't driven one with 22" rims, but I would imagine 18-20 is the sweet spot for bling vs ride balance. One nice thing about 18" wheels though is there is no worry about curb rash The 20" looks better. I would say if you want the skid plates, go with the offroad package and get 18" wheels and decide if you want aftermarket 20"s. If you don't care about the offroad package, you get the stock 20" rims on the higher trims.

I think curb rash would be harder to avoid with the 18s because those rims appear to stick out a bit more.

It's not a Overland or Hemi, but I here on you on the Mineral Grey!! I originally wanted the Red but the Grey really grew on me.

On the other end, I went through school with a used 1999 Trans Am. I got into so much I finally found a 1973 with the factory original 455. Used to love catching second!

Nice! Yep, the Mineral Grey looks really good by itself. Love it.

To add to what Trojan already said, I too find the adaptive cruise control quite handy. When I bought my Overland, my dealer kept saying how great it was but it was a feature I didn't really care about since I've never used cruise control in my past vehicles. If it had that option or not, I didn’t care.

About a month after purchase, I thought I’d give it a try on my way to work (about a 45 minute drive on the highway). I was totally amazed by it lol. I find myself using it quite often now on the highway to and from work.
