I'm still undecided on an SRT8 or Overland. I'm betting I could get the Overland for nearly $10k less so I'm leaning more towards that. If they come out with year end rebates I'll jump on one in a second.
By a 2-3 year old M car and let someone else take the depreciation hit. If buying private sale from someone who has kept records you'll have a fun car for many years. I know owners who use the E9x M throughout the year and swap tire/rims to match the season. Certainly not the preferred winter car but getting by in 4" or less of snow should be acceptable.
I don't have a pulse on the SRT8 (past model or future) and how it would be as an everyday vehicle. Other forum members could help here. However, a vehicle that has a lot of power, AWD and cargo space makes for an interesting combination.
