Hey guys, have not posted on here yet but I have been reading quite a bit. Used some of the great threads to make tire/wheel choices and help putting on some tow-hooks. Here is some video of some buddies of mine checking out local 4x4 trails.
My WK2 is 2012 Overland with black wheels, red tow-hooks and V6. My buddies WK2 is stock wheels on 2011 Overland with the Hemi, the other dude is a stock FJ.
Just want to say Hi and thanks for all the awesome information you guys provide on this Forum!
glad to see someone use it the way it was intended guy at the top of the hill was like hey looks great thumbs up hey maybe i should move still looks good oh crap im moving
thanks guys, I'm glad I get the chance to play around a little even if it's almost 2 hours away from home. We couldn't complete the Flagpole knob trail because of heavy ice on a slight off-camber section but I'm sure we'll have some more fun once it thaws....
The ice which made us turn around, it continued on the trail for as far as we could see
quite a few little offshoots to fool around on, me keeping an eye on my buddy heading up one
a group of wranglers was also out there that day, they had a little too much fun and got stuck....
so i gave them a hand and pulled him out
at the lake at the end of the trail, airing the tires back up, we aired them down when we were reversing down the mountain on the icy bit, doing out best not to slip off!
It's in Virginia, in the George Washington National Forest, about 2~3 hours South West of DC. The two trails shown here are Flagpole Knob and Second Mountain. The GWNF has a bunch of fire roads through it but only a few are well known and documented by 4x4 groups here. Nothing crazy from what I have seen/read... unless of course its super muddy or icy
Nice video thanks for sharing it! Your buddies GC with the stock wheels was that also with the stock GY Forteras? How 'limited' was it off road compared to what you did with your GC?
Yes, they are the stock wheels and tires. He was spinning his wheels a little bit more tying to get up some of the steeper muddy parts but he still made it up. Once we got stuck on the ice, both the FJ and I aired down to about 16psi to try and keep from sliding around and had no issues, my buddy could only air down to about 30 before he was worried about damaging his rims, there was some noticeable sidewall flex, almost to the rim, when going over some of the sharper rocks but in my opinion they did a pretty darn good job.
I was running some 255/75/17 Wrangler SR-A tires off of a 2011 wrangler, still pretty fresh tread, they were almost immediately pulled off the wrangler from the factory and sat because the owner wanted 35" tires. The main reason I wanted them was because we constantly go down to the beach and do a bunch of driving on the sand, i needed the bigger sidewall to air down the tires for sand traction..... plus i get an extra 1/2" ground clearance.... which is nice
