Re: Sand domination @ Oregon inlet

Gosh darn it boys ... you are making this desert rat seriously want some beach time! The good news I will scratch the itch in a couple of weeks when we take the Summit over to Newport Beach for a week. The bad news ... I don't think there's anywhere over there that allows on-beach driving - so I won't get to try out sand mode/airing down/etc.

Any SoCal readers care to comment?

Re: Sand domination @ Oregon inlet

I learned my lesson about "airing down" years ago and always do it now. Just curious what folks do about airing up? Portable compressor in the jeep or beach house, drive to a garage or do you drive for days on pavement with 20 PSI? (Kidding on the last one)

Re: Sand domination @ Oregon inlet

In past years with my 2003 GCL, I would run tire pressures at 28 while spending the week at Avon. I found that the pressure was low enough for the sand in that area but high enough for road use. I will concede that 28 is too high for Oregon Inlet where the sand is very soft.

Re: Sand domination @ Oregon inlet

Yea I usually air down to about 20. And as fun as beach driving is I try not to go to the inlet during the summer. It gets so packed and as previously stated the sand is so soft, the ruts are horrible. Plus the jackholes in the turbo diesels on 48" mud boggers floor it and tear the sand up too much for us that didn't go the monster truck route.

If at the inlet I'd air up across the street, if in Avon I'd air up at the "fishin hole" just a minute down the road from the beach ramp.

I'll be there tomorrow. What marker would you suggest getting on the beach at?

For sure, I'm down. It will be a crazy weekend work-wise but I'm def down. My cousin Justin (1 \/\ WK) is talking about coming down that weekend also.

Oregon Inlet is around mp 20. Can't miss it, it's across from the marina and just before the bridge. If you go before the weekend it should'nt be too bad. There or the complete opposite direction and head north up 12 until you can't go anymore. That's Corova and that's usually packed down a little harder. Plus you might get to see some wild horses. Where are you staying?
