Side swiped at 35MPH! I can't believe it!

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and have had my blackberry pearl/saddle for about 2 months. Was driving home last night from work thoroughly enjoying my Jeep Overland and BOOM! The impact knocked me halfway into the other lane. Driver swerved out of their lane as they were making a long sweeping curve to proceed in a different direction (me west, they north). Pics below show damage. Yes, that's the damage. Virtually nothing. Chrome strip bent..some scuffs on the door and wheel and wheel well. No break-through paint damage at all I can see. Pretty impressive. The hit scared the crap out of me, not only for my own safety but for my new, still unplated, Overland. I'm impressed through and through with my first Jeep and I hope it serves me well for years. Thanks for reading...sportmichael

Did the jerk at least stop so you could get the insurance information?

The jerk was a...

really really sweet young girl from Kentucky. Yes, as soon as she swiped me, she looked over panicked and signalled for me to follow her. We stopped, I got her insurance info and went home. To be perfectly honest, with the insane insurance rates here in CA, I am not sure if I'll even file a claim with her insurance. If the cost is minimal (say $500 or so), I may just pay it. Her car is a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, she's a student, and works full time. Call me crazy but sometimes the right thing to do is nothing at all. The fact is she stopped. I got hit on my KTM RC8 last November. Guy crossed in front of me, tried to avoid, clipped his bumper, high-sided and flew 20 ft through the air and landed on my face. I jumped up, in a bit of a shock, and not one person stopped to help me. The traffic stopped but not one person (save the driver who cut me off about 1/8 mile down the road) got out to help me. As the driver ran back, all the traffic just sat and wait until I moved the bike out of the way so they could keep going. NOT ONE person offered assistance, asked if I was okay, or stuck around as a witness. Again, the driver admitted fault, but the shock that nobody stopped to offer aid was just amazing to me. Sometimes I really wonder about people here in LA. I digress, sorry. ;-)

Re: Side swiped at 35MPH! I can't believe it!

That royally hurts and I'm so sorry that happened to you. It looks like the metal in the doors is robust given handling that deflection swipe rather well. It's too bad your wheel got it too, but be glad you're OK physically. It could have been worse.

You made out better than my wife did in her 3mo old Mercedes a few years ago. She got T-boned at an intersection so hard that it ripped her car in half by a driver doing 50 in a 30 who ran a red light while texting. I was so angry I even asked the judge if I could shove the phone up his ass as part of the punishment.

I don't blame you and I hope the judge threw the book at the idiot. Meanwhile, did the Merc do it's job and give it's life to save your wife?
