Congrats on finally taking delivery of it.

Congrats Dan! Mine was built at the same time but decided to hang out in Detroit for an extra week and a half before finally catching a train. Can't wait to see pics!

OK Dan - get your butt out of the driver's seat long enough to post a pic or two and tell us your experience! We're curious what happened with the trade-in. We want to know just how much of a rush it was finally seeing YOUR Summit.

Spill bub!

I just rented one while in Wichita this week. Laredo V6 and loved it. I can get over the turning radius on this thing. Turns really tight!
Hoping to see mine in a couple of weeks if they stick to there d1 schedule......

Just got back home.....sorry for the delay. The dealer is about an hour away...so got there about 1:00 p.m. The salesperson was waiting and a bit worried since it was unloaded from the truck this morning and she had to fight people to not get their paws on it (she kept it locked and kept both keys!). When she called me this morning at 10:00 a.m. it still needed dealer prep, etc. so she said to give them an hour or two but wanted to let me know ASAP.

There was also a natural green Overland with saddle (sold order too) that was delivered this morning too. She had them park my Summit and the natural green Overland in the back of the building away from the showroom, etc. to keep people away from them as they were both sold orders which was under an overhang so they were in the shade. First, I'll comment on the natural green.....in the shade it looks very dark green...very dark....but then when in was in the bright sun it was a gorgeous metallic green with contrasts that remind me of how the blackberry color changes. This is the first time I really looked at the natural green...and I was impressed....loved how the color really varied in the different lighting conditions....dark in the shadow area and a gorgeous green in the bright sun.

The dealer had it all prepped nicely....no dealer sticker even and just a dealer frame plate which is good for now with the cardboard temp plate (I'll remove it later, no biggie).

The Summit with brilliant black exterior is really really stunning. It just all flows together perfectly.

Here are two quick picks that I took when stopped for a quick bite at Chic-Fil-A (more photos to come when I take them soon....was a really busy day...will explain).

did you eat it it then??? Not sure what you're referring to?
You mentioned you stopped for a bit to eat. Just wondered if you ate in the new Summit? My girlfriend will not smoke, eat or even allow a water bottle in hers. Makes it hard for long trips.

The dealer had the vehicle ready when I arrived so that was nice. When the salesperson took me to see the vehicle there was a family (husband, wife, and around a 15 y.o son) who were in that area looking at vehicles and of course were attracted to my Summit and the natural green Overland...I had just unlocked my Summit and they were practically climbing in before I even sat in it! Needless to say I started to talk with them about the GC's and how nice they are and had to drop how excited I was to finally get my Summit after ordering it 3 months ago...I think they realized they better not climb in since it was mine! LOL They certainly liked it and especially like the full Saddle interior. I took it for a short test drive (only had 5 miles on it) and checked the interior and under the hood (yep, has the hood gasket and diverter to protect the air intake). The exterior and interior were flawless. It drives more solidly and more luxurious than my 2005 GC Limited 4x4 V8 Hemi. I put 150 or so miles on it today.

Dan,

Really nice Jeep. I went to the dealership last Sunday and didn't see much difference between the regular Overland 20" wheels and the Summit 20" wheels, but only because the Jeeps were dirty and parked really close to each other. Seeing those rims in your pictures really shows how nice those polished wheels are on the Summit.

I'm glad I got the BRIGHT polished rims versus the early Summits with the polished rims which I had seen earlier...there is definitely a bigger contrast with the BRIGHT polished rims compared to the painted rims...not as much of a difference between the polished rims and the painted rims.

My Summit and the natural green Overland were the two highest priced GC's on the dealers lot (and they were both sold orders!)....it is a "higher end" dealership so I think it is a matter of demand outstripping their supply. Just thought I'd mention this since some people have posted that there are a lot of high end GC's on dealer lots....not really in my area there aren't....

I swear, there HAS to be a simpler paperwork process. Why so many forms are hand filled in when my info is already in their system and printed on other forms is beyond me....Jeep (Chrysler) needs a good knowledge management system so streamline all this stuff. Even with no financing it took over two hours in all.

Did the whole trade-in price dance....in the end, I kept my 2005 and will sell it myself...no hard feelings with the dealer about this. They did low ball at first which was "the best they could do". I said no. I then showed my NADA and KBB printouts timestamped from this morning....the salesperson then asked if it had ever been in an accident (didn't they ask that before?)....I also brought copies of the major service record (30K service, new tires, etc.). They bumped it up a grand from their previous best offer. In the meantime the sales manager stopped by me and we chatted a bit and he thought NADA trade-in prices would be fair but he isn't in charge of that part. They didn't get to the NADA prices so I just said well then I won't trade it in and will just buy the Summit...OK moved on from that....why that took an hour, I don't know.

The sales person was going back and forth with all the different hand filled out paperwork...and mind you this is a very modern dealership facility...really a top of the line facility and they still have all these forms where you hand write in the same info....very inefficient for sure.

I gotta send out a HUGE thanks to mjw930 up in Ormond Beach, FL for pointing out and explaining the Florida "dealer fees" down here in Florida and emphasizing that dealers can't charge those with the affiliate pricing program. That they have to subtract the dealer fee from the affiliate price then add back the dealer fee since it is required to be charged here in Florida (the work around). Had it not been for mjw930 I probably would not have been prepared for this issue and would have gotten into it with the dealer which would have spoiled the new car buying experience for me a bit.

That brings me to really my only gripe and the only really shady thing the dealer tried to do...intentionally I am sure. They tried to charge me a $599.95 dealer fee...it is printed as part of the sales form. The salesperson and one of the big bosses both absolutely insisted that the dealer fee gets charged with affiliate pricing and is only not included with employee pricing...I insisted dealers can't charge a dealer fee with the affiliate pricing and had to do the work around (subtract and add back). They remained firm and the big boss went back to his office. I continued...very nicely...that the dealer fee could not be charged...and the salesperson with her feigned ignorance tried to be my advocate.

Fortunately, I had all the affiliate pricing information printed out and in hand....all the stuff from the Tread Lightly and direct from the Chrysler website on the affiliate pricing program....she looked at it and quickly found where it said that....she pretended as if she was just learning this for the first time....as if this was a learning experience for her (that was BS, but whatever). All sales people are not trained to lie...so why is it that U.S. car maker sales people seem to be???

Needless to say the big boss guy never did reappear....probably because he knew I knew he wasn't truthful. Oh well.

Dan,

Congrats my man, very nice and glad you like it. Can't wait to call my wife and find out she got ours. I'm sure you will enjoy this for a while. Don't be too much of a stranger here now that you have the ride. LOL

After getting over the dealer fee nonsense...the transaction went smoothly as we wrapped up the insurance thing...insurance company faxes authorization for the second new vehicle and all the final numbers before heading over to the finance guy who goes through it all and takes my check (I wasn't financing the purchase but the same guy handles the money).

Very nice finance guy. No pressure on the extended contracts and he presented my options very well...I simply told him I probably won't have the vehicle longer than the 3 years anyway and could always buy an extended warranty later if needed. Fair enough...moved on. Still a lot of paperwork....finishing up registration and plate fees imposed by the state. They do have on the paperwork earlier a $49 e-filing fee....not sure if that is a legit fee or not esp since e-filing probably saves the dealership a ton of paperwork too but there weren't any other doc fees so no biggie.

One thing to mention, I had the printout of the build sheet with the FFP pricing and the price they had on the sales form was higher....but I quickly realized that the new invoice form (different from the build sheets) incorporated the $75 affiliate pricing admin fee that goes to Chrysler so that was all good....although the dealership people couldn't explain why the prices were different...so I had to explain it to them...

I chatted for a while with the finance guy as he was interested in what I do and wanted some advice so I gave him some advice regarding his financial planning that was unbiased...basically tell him what I do with my own portfolio and why....I don't do that for a living so it was 100% unbiased...and he was thankful for the advice and I commented about how difficult it is to get unbiased financial planning advice since most are on commission and can be as bad as dealing with car salesman....he laughed and said it is absolutely true...and not to trust car sales people...too funny.

One of the forms that they present is a form agreeing to arbitration....I simply said no. That that wasn't a requirement to buying a vehicle...they said OK, that I didn't have to sign it. I was surprised they caved. Not that I plan on ever having a dispute with this dealership but why just voluntarily waive my legal rights?

The two guys that then handled the actual transfer were nice. They explained here is the manual on CD, etc. that I could order a paper manual, that I should get the first oil change at 3K miles and was free at the dealership.....for some reason they really made a big deal that the first oil change was free. From then on change the oil every 6K miles.

They also said use 89 octane mid-grade gas for best performance. That 87 was OK to use and won't cause engine knocking because of the multi-displacement engine. But said to NOT use high-grade/higher than 89 octane because it would cause the engine to run too hot. Also, to not tow 7200 lbs for the first 2K miles something to do with too much heat on the brakes that could cause damage...that towing say 2 jet skies during the first 2K miles was OK, just not max tow load....first I heard of this.

Anyway....I'm glad I stuck with the V8 Hemi....good power and good responsiveness.

Dan, I was surprised by this advice. Is this recommendation limited to the Hemi or will the V6 have the same recommendation? I recall reading here somewhere and dealers telling me to use only 87 octane in the engine and no benefit(s) come from using higher grades. With prices here in California well over $4, I has hoping to use regular again.

Dan... it looks AWESOME... I have to ask... did you eat it it then? lol
I can not wait until Tuesday.

I still have a lot to go through as I was driving around....had to go visit one friend the run past home to another buddy to then go pick some other people before having my buddy go with me all the way back to the dealership to get my old Jeep (since I didn't trade it in) then back to my place to drop off a Jeep then to his place then back to my place....so was all over the place.

The RHR nav and all the voice commands are a HUGE improvement from the nav/bluetooth/voice command system in my 2005 GC. 6 years should bring big changes though. My iPhone 4 connected easily and synch address book automatically. Haven't tried to play music from my iPhone 4 yet though. The touch screen it sooo much better than the knob selection thing on my 2005. Also, the real time traffic works well.....I was coming down I-95 and it had told me to exit an earlier exit (an alt route) because of traffic conditions....I ignored the suggestion....stupid me....traffic jam that added 15+ minutes to my drive time. The navigation voice is nicer and gives very good guidance.....much better than in my 2005.

Oddly, I couldn't readily locate the fog lamp on/off switch and need to figure out what the green headlight light means ... it is very bright for just alerting you the headlights are on.....but I a guess that is what it means.

The Saddle leather is gorgeous and had great feedback on it. If you look close, it isn't a solid color like the black or beige. It is like a tighter pattern venetian plaster effect...various shades of similar colors layered. That may explain why it looks much better in person than in photos. It is also a softer my pliable leather (hope it doesn't stretch...am going to make an effort to not slide into the seat just in case). I really like the upper Saddle interior....was looking for a different interior from the standard dark grays....so will like it.

One thing I would suggest Jeep to change in the interior is the interior fabric color on the pillar posts and roof. I know Jeep use the same light grayish/beigeish in all the interiors but would look better with a more coordinating color....not a big issue, just a suggestion for improvement.

I just realized I never checked the spare tire.....LOL

Glad Jeep included the hitch opening cover....

In bright sunlight you can see the nice wood grain in the black olive wood trim....not so much in regular or low lighting conditions....more visible grain would be nicer.

Really like the pano roof....no buffering...will test some more.

Probably will want to do the sharkfin antennae once am assured it doesn't get worse reception.

Might tint the windows......

Very smooth riding.....pretty darn quiet interior but not absolutely quiet as can be found in some vehicles.
