Keyless means opening and starting without a key.....kept in your pocket.
With just a remote, you had to press the open button on the fob and then insert the key to start.......BIG difference.

BTW, congrats.

Re: The Summit has landed!

Dan, Congrats on the delivery, I bet you're glad you waited and didn't cave on some of the others that showed up a few weeks ago.

The dealer fee thing here in FL is a big problem and not actually caused by the dealers but by the state legislature! In a rush to judgment to try and control dealer's charging different fees to different people they enacted the stupid law that if they charge one person a fee they must charge everyone the same fee. I guess they think they need to protect the helpless or less intelligent of society at the expense of others! They should do what 20+ other states have done and make these fees illegal or cap them at something like $50, as Texas does. If the dealers want to make more profit then mark up the price like every other retailer. As it is today most of the larger dealers today exercise a loophole in the law and advertise vehicles at absurdly low prices to get you in then spring a "dealer fee" of more then $500 on you after you've already become emotionally invested in the deal. It's just wrong and the state should outlaw the practice. Here's a good read on the subject, it's a few years old but still applicable. http://oncars.blogspot.com/2007/04/l...r-fee-law.html

Enjoy the Summit and get those pictures taken and published

Re: The Summit has landed!

Yep - Downloaded the iPhone app last night...was up late, not got up late! Thanks for the foglamp switch info... I still don't think the keyless entry/start is any big deal...the simplicity and clarity of using a key is fine. You still gotta pull out the remote for remote start or remote auto open of liftgate so remote lock and unlock is not biggie. Maybe I will discovery its convenience with use but right now it seems like unnecessary tech.

Congrrats joebinotto getting your BUILT!!! Ooooo, now the tortuous wait begins! LOL

Mrfixxit and Netcoolery hope you get yours within the week.....glad my dealer got my soon after reaching destination rail yard (estimate was 3 days for delivery which seems long and yep it was they did it in one). Once it shows left the destination rail yard the ones I've watched reached the dealer within 24 hours....

Re: The Summit has landed!

You will stop needing to use your key for daily use other than having it in your pocket. You will unlock and lock the rig with a single touch of the front door handle and button locks respectively. Same for ignition. Simplicity and convenience indeed.

Remote start and rear hatch lft are yet additional conveniences that you will love but use way less frequently than entry and start.

It is Ok, put the abacus away.

Re: The Summit has landed!

^^^ Funny... I'm actually a big techie and have all the latest gadgets...and roll over all my Apple stuff every year and have for many years since just sell the one year old stuff on ebay. So, I was surprised that I just don't see the real benefit of the keyless thing...seems like someone who would load their 1000 DVD's onto a home server for the coolness of having them on demand yet really not watch many movies and wasn't worth the trouble since loading a DVD is simple and then finds out that they really want Blu-Ray instead (I have a friend that did that...waste of time)....LOL I know my parents will get a 2012 GC and my dad won't care for the keyless.

Re: The Summit has landed!

GREAT comments Dan. I was going through withdrawals yesterday looking for your updates. Did you get a manual on the RHR? Congrats and enjoy your Jeep.

Anyway....I'm glad I stuck with the V8 Hemi....good power and good responsiveness.
Dan, I was surprised by this advice. Is this recommendation limited to the Hemi or will the V6 have the same recommendation? I recall reading here somewhere and dealers telling me to use only 87 octane in the engine and no benefit(s) come from using higher grades. With prices here in California well over $4, I has hoping to use regular again.

Joe, I can offer some empiric evidence re the value of mid-grade sauce...I had been running nothing but regular unleaded since Day One and found the MPG to be lacking (a feeble 13.3 or so). I have now run a couple of tankfuls of mid-grade and have seen a steady increase to around 14.5 mpg and climbing (except for that little throwdown I had with an X5 the other day which caused it to drop to 14.2). What I don't know yet is whether this bump in MPG offsets the extra cost but that's an easy calculation to make. I just started using an app to track my fuel economy and should have some data soon.

Re: The Summit has landed!

Dan - This is good stuff. Thanks for the details on how the transaction went.

As I've posted earlier on this forum, the dealer was pretty good to me re: my trade-in, guaranteeing a number and so forth. So I didn't fight their $399 "doc fee". However, I will have the affiliate info printed out and with me. A deal's a deal in my view - so if they abide by what they offered, then I'll abide by what I signed up for.

If, for some reason, they start to weasel on the trade-in, then out comes the affiliate paperwork :-) I really hope we don't go there as I would prefer a friendly transaction, ongoing relationship and so forth.

In most states if a dealer charges a documentation fee for one customer they are required to charge everyone. These fees vary by market. For example in Atlanta all dealers charge them and they range from $500-800 depending on brand. Luxury brands get the most. However in more rural areas such as in Alabama the dealers can't change these fees because the market won't support it. Of course just because they charge these fees doesn't mean they can't reduce the price of the vehicle to compensate you, a fact that I ALWAYS remind them when I'm negotiating. It rarely works well though. I've successfully negotiated 1/2 if the doc fee off the price of the car before...its just going to depend on how badly they want to sell the car vs how badly you want it in these cases. Keep in mind that fee is pure profit for them (well to cover overhead).

Congrats Dan, your new ride us gorgeous!
