Festone - Have a good trip. As others have said, when you finally get it set up an tightened down properly they are pretty solid on the roof. I was going West through Iowa at about 75-80 mph into a 35 mph head wind and it held on with no problems (although I wasn't really enjoying driving that fast into the head wind but its all about making good time :-).
Groundchuck - if you are interested in selling the silver one I may be interested in purchasing it for it. PM me if you plan to sell. thx

Sorry Ken, I know this question is a few weeks old now but figured I could chime in, in case you're still hunting for a roof rack.

You're correct Thule discontinued their fit kit for WK2 w/ factory flush rails... ebay is probably your best bet.
